I have a question about bowel movements. Since becoming pregnant I have not been quite right in that department. Either constipated or the other end of spectrum! I'm so gassy and bloated of an evening. It's horrible!

Another thing, it stinks! Like way more than usual! Gosh I can't believe I'm sharing this.

Should I be worried? 26 weeks now. Baby spot on with measurements etc. shall I mention it to midwife? Is this normal?

I even stopped taking preg vitamins for a few days but makes no difference it seems. Help!

I am all over the place in that department too! I think it is pretty normal, have read it is a common symptom (although I don't remember anything like this with DC1).
If you are uncomfortable it is always worth a mention to your MW, won't do any harm, there may be some tips she can offer you, but yes, I do think it is normal (although most embarrassing!)

Me too. Mentioned it and they said it was very, very common.

Either poo issues or heartburn/reflux ... or both! Shock

I just use fybogel once a day and prune juice or innocent smoothies, helps quite a bit!

Baked beans on granary toast + all bran with milk and abanana for breakfast. Every day. Sorted.

Yep. Me too. Hubby (bless him) said the smell is no different it's just my nose is so much more sensitive. I was told that my drinking more (as I'm permanently thirsty) can also cause things to get a bit runny.

Oh the joys of pregnancy.

Thanks! It's the smell that shocks me most. I mean it really is gross! I wonder of my digestive system is not working as efficiently right now and that is the reason for it

I'd say it's a pretty normal side effect! My other half even posted these words on Facebook: "no one does farting like a pregnant lady"!! :-D

Jersey37 · 03/06/2014 10:32

Oh my goodness Monkeybrain- I can't believe he posted that! If my hubby did that I'd castrate him! Mind you I threaten that everytime I feel tired of being pregnant. Getting to be an empty threat!

Before pregnancy - I had IBS - mostly the runny kind. So now it has firmed up a bit which is a bonus... but like you I have bouts of it going completely the other way... totally embarrassing... I never know when it is going to 'turn'!

Digestion gets buggered up due to relaxing smooth muscle tissue and the way your digestive organs get shoved around by baby growing! I seem to do megapoos every 3 days or so, like it takes that long to build up and get out! Also have trapped wind a lot but I now just avoid anything fizzy. The whole 4 poos at once thing is annoying though!

ChicaMomma · 03/06/2014 11:05

A glass of prune juice a day is all that works for me..

Mine actually smell better than before though- but i used drink a lot of wine, and i think white wine makes your poo smell TOXIC- so the absence of wine has made them much more 'fragrant'! I'm 38 weeks now and it's common to start pooing more regularly pre birth, 3 times yesterday, and OMG it's no hard to wipe your bum- i ended up having to have a shower in the middle of the nite as it went everywhere.

sorry for the TMI but it's better for you guys to know ahead of time- i wish someone had told me!!
