AIBU rant

Just a rant.

Yesterday I went to a pub as it was sunny. I ordered one of those 'fake' beers (i.e. ZERO alcohol, just not a kid's drink). It said so on the bottle. I deliberately kept it in the bottle so people could see and it wouldn't be awkward.

Crossing the garden, a woman (very Boden/perfect mum looking) saw me and honestly pantomimed her shock and disgust: ultra-raised eyebrows, mouth wide open, expression of disgust aimed at my eyes for the (loooong it felt) walk to my table. Looking round her for moral support.
But she didn't say anything so I was too shy to go "NO LOOK LADY IT'S OK IT'S NOT REAL BEER."

I won't see her again ever I reckon, but it's really bugging me. AIBU, she was making it really, really obvious she thought I was an evil fetus killer but I had no way of saying it was OK.

No you are not beinmg unreasonable. I commited the cardinal sin of having 1 small glass of wine with soda water in a restraunt on Friday and I actually found the looks I got quite amusing as though people feel they have a right to judge. That is my 2nd glass of wine in 7 months so will not be apologising for it!! x

More fool her for being so judgy! Hope someone judges her when she's feeling vulnerable. I am almost full term on my third pregnancy and regularly partake in the the enjoyment of the odd becks blue or (shock horror!) small glass of wine in a pub garden/ at a bar. Don't give it another thought hon it was none of her business.

I'd even had someone suggest it was 'odd' I wanted a fake beer (like it suggests I'm secretly wanting to drink loads) so I was quite touchy!

The irony is I find the taste of actual booze foul at the moment: but I dislike sugary fizzy drinks, Becks Blue or Bitburger 0% are just a bit more interesting than soda water!

And why should you have to say anything? You don't have to justify yourself. One day, she's going to act like that with the wrong person...

Lula2515 · 02/06/2014 11:46

You should have got the bar person to slyly fill you some shot glasses with apple juice and do them in front of her. Silly judgemental cow. Xxx

amy83firsttimer · 02/06/2014 11:49

Even if it had been real beer there would be no problem with one small one anyway so judge her for her ignorance!

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 02/06/2014 11:53

Just ignore. People love to judge. By No. 3 I sometimes had a glass of wine in public and smiled broadly at any judgy faces. Grin

Yes, just ignore.

I went wine tasting recently in Porto. We went to three different vineyards with a tour group. I was obviously pregnant. I tried everything but took just tiny sips, and my husband drank the rest of my glasses. Other people saw but didn't seem to mind. The only comment I got was from a lady who offered me a refill, when I declined it, she said "oh yes, I suppose you shouldn't drink too much!"

I probably had less than 1 unit of alcohol in total that day. And I haven't touched alcohol since. i.e. I'm a responsible mum and people are right to just mind their own business!
