Hi girls,

I'm in massive trouble from dh because I could not resist POAS this morning and the line came back a bit lighter than the one i did a week ago:) it came up instantly, but was definitely lighter. I'm now scared that my scan this week will show that things have not progressed! I used the same type of test too! I did wee during the night which I guess could have effected the result, but surely if all is well it would be darker than a week ago? Unless there is a point after which you re not meant to POAS.

Does anyone know? I guess im an idiot for still POAS:(

Hi congrats on your pregnancy, but sorry you are stressed about the tests.

There are several possible explanations, and you can't know which it is for you.

Sadly one is that your hormone levels could be dropping and you are miscarrying, however this is no more likely than the amount of dye in the test being less, or your wee being more dilute. Also at around 8 to 10 weeks the level of the pregnancy hormones reach a point where the tests stop working, it is called the hook effect if you want to google it. But basically there is no way of knowing from the tests what your actual hormone levels are, and therefore how the pregnancy is progressing.

The fact that the test came up instantly is a good thing. Just try to resist testing again if you can. Take one day at a time the mantra "today I am pregnant" can be helpful!

Different batches of same brand can be different intensities of darkness.

Fmu recommended simply as its the most concentrated; evening urine will be significantly diluted comparatively as you've drunk a lot in previous 7-8 hrs compared to none when asleep...

I've had three mc. That a test line was lighter was never a sign for me - no test line, loss of symptoms etc would be more worrying.

Hope it goes well Flowers

( Hmm to being in trouble with your dh)

I did this at 8 weeks, took a test on the night and got a really dark line. Decided to finish up the packet the next morning and the line was really light! Did two more tests from another brand and just as light.

I panicked and googled and had sense talked to me by midwife sister about hook effect plus the fact hpts don't measure how pregnant you are.

Anyway, healthy baby at 13 week scan so all that worrying for nothing.
