More likely for stretch marks second time round?

I escaped with 2 tiny marks around my belly button with dd and they only appeared in the last few week of pregnancy, but this time I am sure I spotted some already . Surely I am all stretched out already from my first pregnancy?

I got a few on my hips in my first pregnancy, none in my second - made sure I moisturised daily. I think I forgot about my hips first time around, although moisturised 'bump' everyday and didn't get any there! iykwim

Oh great another thing to worry about!!

Thought the same as you OO - I had stretched already!!

oliveoil · 25/03/2004 12:39

I have always moisturised all over since I was about 14 so I just put a thicker one on my stomach last time - Palmers Stretch Mark Cream, smells nice too.

Not that it matters if I get a raspberry ripple belly (no bikini modelling for me) but I would rather avoid if poss.

I think the marks that I saw this morning could be marks from my trousers, will study properly tonight, hmmmmmm

got loads on my first and none on my second

I thought that stretch marks were hereditary so you are more likely to get them if your mum has them; also thought that creams are not likely to make a difference

I got them during puberty as I grew quickly, but haven't got any so far (touch wood) at 39wks.
I think there is some genetic predisposition to them (or not). I've used Clarins Huile Tonic religiously.

I thought I hadn't got any in my first pregnancy. And then I realised they'd been tucked away like a concertina UNDER my bump.

eddm · 25/03/2004 15:29

I thought the first couple to appear were kind of cute.. showed there really was a baby in there... but now have what looks like road map of British Isles! Couldn't possibly get any more next time around, could I?

spacemonkey · 25/03/2004 15:37

I woke up one morning during my first pregnancy looking like my belly was on fire - the stretch marks appeared literally overnight! With my second pregnancy I was a different shape (bump all at the front), so I got more stretch marks.

AFAIK there's not a lot you can do about them - if you're predisposed to get them, you will. My mum has no stretch marks after 3 children, I've got loads!

bundle · 25/03/2004 15:54

nope, had them with neither. cellulite on the other hand..aplenty

lydialemon · 25/03/2004 16:34

I got loads with my first, and none with my second as I carried the same way. However my bump was totally different with DD, so I got a few 'extensions' third time round. First was definitely the worst though.

lou33 · 25/03/2004 16:36

No stretch marks here.

starry · 25/03/2004 17:26

No stretch marks after 2 pregnancies - and DS2 was 14 days late! Breastfed both and still have perky boobs aswell

Proberly is a genetic link but my mother got terrible stretchmarks and saggy boobs and she didn't even breastfeed!

I also thought stretch marks were hereditary although my mum and sister had loads and I have none after two full pregnancies.

no stretch marks with either pregnancy and i had put on 4 1/2 stone with 1st. Put on 1 stone(not pregnant just piggin out) last year and hey presto strecth marks!

stupidgirl · 25/03/2004 21:29

I got loads in puberty, but none in my first pregnancy. I was a bit disappointed really! Second time round I got 2 each side of the bump. That's it. I'd rather have pg stretch marks than puberty ones though...

Ghosty · 25/03/2004 21:39

First time round (10lb baby) I didn't get any ...
Second time (10lb 10oz baby) I got two ... like two quotation marks, one big red one on each hip ... in the last 2 weeks ... Almost like my poor tummy gave up and said, I can't take any more ...
And my mum didn't get any in 4 pregnancies but my sister got loads with her first baby ... so that blows the hereditary theory ...

Posey · 26/03/2004 20:47

I never got any either time, neither did my mum or my sister. I reckon genes play a part.
My sister said that the younger you are when you have your children the more likely you are to get them (I had 1st at 28, mum at 32, and sis at 36)
By the way, its her theory not mine this time (maybe theory-making runs in families!)
