Very light brown spotting but EPU won't scan

Hi ladies, I'm 8+4, have had very light brown spotting, both in colour and quantity, for the past week. Have also had stomach pains but only light cramps similar to what I've had throughout pregnancy so far. I think the stomach pains are more IBS, as I'm really bloated. I've still got other symptoms like nausea, fatigue and sore boobs. I've called the EPU a couple of times and they've said I'm fine unless the spotting is red and so they wouldn't book me in for a scan.

I know spotting is common, but have others had it for a week? Should I be worried? Should I just book in for a private scan or try again with EPU? Just looking for a bit of reassurance please.

Thanks x

Brown spotting is obviously less worrying than red. I had an early mc at 8 weeks the first time and it was bright red straight away. Second time I had light brown for 3 or 4 days pretty much as you describe at 8 weeks and thought it was all over again - he's now my eldest. There are no guarantees but I think you could still be ok? I went straight to epu and got a scan though where they saw the heartbeat which was reassuring. Go back and cry and kick up a fuss maybe? After a week I think you have a right to know whether you are likely to me mc or not. Good Luck!

I got a scan after spotting by calling my GP and asking for advise there - they referred my straight away, so maybe try that?

See if your GP will refer you. I had spotting this pregnancy after 3 losses, thankfully it never came to anything. They shouldn't really refuse you as there are various (not MC) causes for bleeds that are useful to know - for you and mW e.g. sensitive cervix.

I had some red spotting at 10 wks and wasn't offered a scan. I'm currently sat feeding my little bundles

Thanks everyone. Great to hear some positive stories. Rang EPU again and this time they were more helpful and have booked me in for a scan tomorrow. Fingers crossed everything will be ok. Thanks again x

Good luck - I had weeks of brown spotting and discharge throughout my first and second trimester; it's only been from about week 26 that it stopped. EPU scanned me at 7 weeks (when it first happened) and we ended up paying for a private scan too to check all was ok when the spotting came back a few weeks later, but all was fine and now I'm nearly 28 weeks it seems to have pretty much stopped. Never had an explanation for it, but I try to tell myself if the midwives aren't worried, I shouldn't worry. Easier said than done! Hope you get good news.
