10 day wait for anaemia results

I am currently 6wks. Prior to being pregnant I was fit and healthy, exercised regularly and am a good weight for my height.
Since the weekend I have been feeling exhausted, light-headed and my heart has been racing ten to the dozen whenever I do simple tasks like climb the stairs. Each day I feel a little bit worse.
I saw my GP yesterday who suggested it could be anaemia and explained that my red blood cell count would keep on decreasing until I am given the correct medication -GP knows I'm pregnant. He sent me for blood tests but the result take 7-10days to come back. I feel like I am getting worse, earlier I stood up and fell straight back down again (onto the bed).
My GP doesn't seem worried about me having to wait 10 days for result and possible treatment, but that just doesn't seem right to me. What do you think?

I would check back on Tuesday they might get them through if your still like this call the docs Monday. Are you drinking and eating enough? Dehydration can make you feel giddy. Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Gemini , I am not eating as much as normal, I just don't feel hungry, but I am drinking a fair amount. Will give them a ring on Monday if still feeling awful.

10 days is a long time I had a blood test last week and got the results the next day

They don't take ten days. My practice told me a week, I had a GP appointment the next day and they had them already. Try earlier, why not?

I'm anaemic too, it's exhausting. And I have a 2 year old to run around after!

I guess it depends on your nhs trust. I've had bloods taken today and have been advised I'll get my results tomorrow. I was gobsmacked!

Could you not take an iron supplement as a precaution?

CoolCat2014 · 29/05/2014 20:20

Maybe try eating lots of iron rich foods I. The mean time? Red meats, leafy green veg, curry powder all are high in iron :)

You could try taking Spatone in the interim? Can't see it would hurt anything?
