Hi,

I am 23+1 pregnant and I know I'm having a girl. Last few weeks I've been feeling her move everyday and doing some kicks too, but for the last 4-5 days, I haven't felt anything. I have felt some small twinges but nothing smiliar to the movements she was doing in there before. I'm really worried. I feel asthough my bump has also gone a bit and my tummy doesn't feel as hard at the front. This sound normal to anyone?
Any advice would be really appreciated...very worries first mummy to be!

Babies do sometimes go through quiet patches for no particular reason.

But if you notice a decrease in number of vigour or movements, you need to be checked.

Ring your MW now.

blueberryboybait · 29/05/2014 11:39

It could be a simple as her having turned but if you are worried please please contact your midwife/hospital. They will check you over and hopefully ease your worries by listening for her heartbeat.

TheScience · 29/05/2014 11:41

The baby is so small at that stage that it's easy for them to change position and you to feel less - generally the advice is to monitor movement after 26-28 weeks.

If you are concerned though I would give your midwife a call.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 29/05/2014 11:41

I would ring your midwife and get checked over but in the meantime try drinking a very cold drink as that usually gets them wriggling. I hope everything is okay.

forago · 29/05/2014 11:42

Phone the number on your book straight away and go in for a check. It is probably fine (baby has moved position or something - maybe why your bump seems different) but they always need to check when this happens.

Don't panic - this happened to me at least once in each of my 3 pgs - but you do need to get checked straight away.

Gingerandcocoa · 29/05/2014 11:42

Probably nothing to worry about but please do ring your midwife just to check.

forago · 29/05/2014 11:43

TheScience is right, still early so evry possible she has just moved.

EmilyRose21 · 29/05/2014 11:48

All really helpful thankyou. My midwife is on Holiday until next week, who would be the next best person to call?

Give your midwife a call.

Im not good at feeling movements sometimes and twice was told to go down to the hospital to get checked out in this pregnancy. Both times all was absolutely fine but better to be safe.

Nishky · 29/05/2014 11:50

Another midwife- how do you contact her -is it through GP? Just phone surgery.

forago · 29/05/2014 11:51

the number on your pink book or pg notes!

GingerRodgers · 29/05/2014 11:58

Call labour ward (number will be on the front of your notes- if not call the hospital reception and get put through) explain to them what you've told us.

Ring the MW but before 24 weeks there is still lots of room for unfelt movement. Hence they don't worry too much prior to 26-8 weeks.

I know as I have rung several times myself! :) But they may well see you to ease your mind.

mousebacon · 29/05/2014 12:19

You need to ring the maternity assessment unit at your hospital. The number will be on your notes.

Please ring them & go in to get checked over. Everything is probably fine but it's always better to get reduced movements checked out.

Waffles80 · 29/05/2014 12:43

Definitely ring! There should be several numbers on the front page of your notes so call one of those and ask for clarification on who to speak to. Or call the hospital and ask for the Maternal Assessment Unit. They'll take it very seriously and probably ask you to come in to monitor the baby's heart rate. This happened to me last week - I am having twins and I just hadn't felt one of them move as much. I had been reluctant to call because firstly, I didn't want to waste anyone's time and secondly, I wasn't 100% sure I hadn't felt the baby move. The midwife was absolutely wonderful and said that the sign you need to call is quite simply the feeling that you think something isn't right.

Hope all is well for you - babies do sometimes just have quiet phases!

hartmel · 30/05/2014 04:18

Did you call? Or is your little one happy moving around again.

Please call maternity ward don't feel like you are wasting their time. That is why they are there for. And it will give you a peace of mind

SouthDerbyshireMamma · 30/05/2014 08:53

I was told off by my midwife yesterday for not ringing when I had reduced movement on Wednesday. She said I should always call for advice. She said if I can't get through to her to call the community midwife or labour ward. I just didn't want to bother anyone but I do now understand the importance or reporting any change.

Hope your little one is making her presence knowm again Smile

Kt1991 · 30/05/2014 15:47

I had this a few weeks, and baby had just moved positions, but I would deffo ring to put your mind at ease! I hesitated, but knew I would only worry more If I didn't get checked out! I was also 23 weeks. Don't worry if you can't get hold of your own Midwife, if you ring the number on your notes they will be able to help you.

qazxc · 30/05/2014 15:57

Ring hospital and ask to speak to a midwife.
TBH at this stage they do go through quiet days or can move in a spot where you don't feel them as much, especially if you have an anterior placenta. Or else LO might be riverdancing at night when you are asleep. Generally you don't need to worry about consistency till 28 weeks.
However many units will give you tips and tricks to do at home (cold sweet drink, lying down and concentrating onmovement, etc...). If no luck probably bring you in to have a look. They'd rather spend a while examining you , rather than you stressing out for no reason.
