I'm 34 weeks and not sure if I have had any? What do they feel like?

I have in every pregnancy. I'm now 25 weeks and they've started this week. My bump just goes tight and hard for a few seconds. Not painful and probably wouldn't notice if I didn't know what it was.

LucyB1 · 28/05/2014 19:04

Sometimes it does but I thought she was sticking her bum/ back out. Could this be it?

I thought it was a case of 'everyone has them, not everyone feels them'?

MrsSpencerReid · 28/05/2014 19:31

I don't think I did, but I never got past 35w so maybe they hast started yet?!

whereisthewitch · 28/05/2014 19:36

I didn't in my first pregnancy but have had them early on this time, my chest gets all tight and bump goes hard...they are strong but not painful!

HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs · 28/05/2014 19:37

I didn't ever feel anything like that. No twinges etc at all until the morning of my induction appointment (went 13 days overdue) when I woke up with period-pain cramps. They just got worse throughout the day, and that was what contractions felt like for me.

omama · 28/05/2014 19:40

I never had any either. Not a single tightening, nor any twinges. Mind you, ds was breech throughout so maybe that had something to do with it.

ThatBloodyWoman · 28/05/2014 19:41

I never noticed any in either pregnancy.

RAFWife12 · 28/05/2014 19:44

I wouldn't know I was having them except for feeling bump go hard when resting my hand on it! I feel nothing otherwise - no twinges, no discomfort, certainly no pain! I'm 30+5 and first pregnancy.

addictedtosugar · 28/05/2014 19:58

I never noticed them, but following on from discussions with others, I';d agree with "everyone has them, not everyone notices them"

Flickstar · 28/05/2014 20:11

I don't notice any in my first pregnancy but have second time around.

sauvignonblacks · 28/05/2014 20:17

You lucky bunch at 36 weeks into my 2nd pregnancy they literally stop me in my tracks!

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 28/05/2014 20:26

I'm also 34 weeks and can't say I've felt anything I would consider BH yet. My midwife said this was the case too: everyone has them, not everyone notices them

SpecialStuff · 28/05/2014 20:28

I never felt anything until labour started at 11 days over.

GingerRodgers · 28/05/2014 20:30

Yep, everyone has them not everyone feels them.
You're lucky if you don't is all I'll say. Mine are bloody awful.

MrsPatMustard · 28/05/2014 21:02

I had them from about 20 weeks. They weren't painful but towards the end I got them almost constantly. The week I went into labour I had them every 3 or 4 minutes for most the of the day. The only reason I knew they were Braxton Hicks and not labour was that they always stopped when I went to bed.

There's an old wives tale that says if you get lots of Braxton Hicks you get a faster labour. I don't know if there's anything in this, although my labour was pretty fast for a first-timer. 4cm dilated to fully dilated in 6 hours (whole thing would have been done and dusted in 6 and a half hours but DS had a head on the 95th centile and got stuck - bugger!)

addictedtosugar · 28/05/2014 21:22

MrsPat no braxton hicks noticed, and fast labours here. I guess I could have had lots of braxton hicks, and not noticed any of them?? DS1 was 2.5 hrs form 5cm to birth. DS2 was 2.5 hrs from first contraction to birth (that was a little too fast for my liking!)

ImBrian · 28/05/2014 22:37

I didn't with my first but have with all the rest (3)

Boogles91 · 29/05/2014 05:09

I had a few between 18-21wks, then soon as 28wks hit i had them at night one after the. Other -.- it feels as if your stomach starts squeezing you and bump goes rock hard. Think of like when your holding a snake and it coils your arm, how it slowly tightens itself, but ur tummy does stop lol im now 33wks and still getting them anout 4nights out the week. There not painful as they are highly uncofortable x

Boogles91 · 29/05/2014 05:13

Just to add when hes stiking his arse up my bump is always softer one side and a weird rock hard shape the other, as hes taken up cam on my right side :) with my bh its the whole of my bump going hard except where my scar is right underneath bump.

I never noticed them with my first two but noticed them at about 15 weeks with dc3. It feels a bit like she has got into an awkward position and sticking a limb out but when I (and DH and DC) prod my bump it is hard all over.

coffeetofunction · 29/05/2014 09:44

I've had BH in all pregnancies. Some very uncomfortable some only noticeable when touching bump. This pregnancy they started at 23 weeks. Coincidently I labour fast 1st labour- 3 hours, 2nd labour- just over 1.5hours think this 1 might just fallout Shockl

FoodieMum3 · 29/05/2014 10:20

I started getting them from 37 weeks on my first pregnancy, 28 weeks on second and around 22 weeks this time.

I find that I get them if I do too much - washing floors, long walk etc. they're not painful, bump just stiffens completely for a few seconds. I'm almost 25 weeks now and it probably happens twice every day.

I think they're great to have you ready for labour, I was 2 cm dilated at a check up at 39 weeks both times so they definitely do something.
