I had one in the morning. Waters broke that evening and I was in labour 45 mins later.

PS I think I was around a week overdue when I had it done.

Is it really uncomfortable or kind of like a smear?

I had 2 with DS3. They are uncomfortable, but not unbearable. With the 2nd one, the contractions started within an hour, I was a week overdue.

Had a sweep at about 7 days overdue. Was induced 4 days later as still had no signs of starting on my own. I didn't find it uncomfortable, I was willing to try anything by that stage. Good luck with everything.

It was uncomfortable (I'd say more uncomfortable than a smear, but not significantly) - but it didn't last very long and I'm glad I had it done as I preferred not to be induced using drugs.

I had one that loosened the plug. Then another the following day. Then I was induced the day after.

Oh, and yes, more uncomfortable than a smear. But not painful, just a strange sensation.
