Does anyone know how far an unborn baby is affected by its mother's moods?

just wondering....

i assume that if i am stressed (whether angry or excited) the baby gets a shot of adrenalin, but wondered whether other emotions (joy, feeling sentimental, sadness, etc) are somehow chemically passed to the baby?

Yes I think they are BUT I wouldn't worry as everyone during 9 months MUST get stressed, worried and emotional.

If it's a concern then I would speak to your mw but I honestly wouldn't worry. That said, if dh & I argue or I have a low day I constantly need dh to reassure me that dc2 is ok..!

thanks for the responses. i'm honestly not worrying (too much) - i think i'm probably having a pretty average time of things this pregnancy.

it was more that i was wondering about it - when i'm choosing what to read or watch on tv (or more realistically, what thread to open) am i going to give the baby a does of whatever emotion it causes?

I had a shockingly stroppy, bad tempered, stressed, bordering on ante natally depressed pregnancy with dd, it was so terrible that dh reckons we'd NEVER survive another pregnancy (our relationship that is) and she's the sunniest, happiest, cheerist little poppet you could imagine.

So I reckon they're pretty cushioned in there. This post will come back and bite me on the bum of course when she turns into a serial killer
