Early pregnancy scan no heartbeat

Hi, I've seen many things on here and google but always seem to get different answers.

Found out I am pregnant with baby number 3 just over a week ago while on the pill! Sent for an early scan 2 days ago.. First guy said I'm sorry there is the sac but there's no baby, he went to get a second opinion and the next man stared at the screen and pointed to a tiny grey "dash" and said there's the baby but it has no heartbeat.
They measured it which came out at 6.85ml they didn't tell me how many weeks I am they just kept saying how sorry they were over and over they seemed so sure that the pregnancy is over!
I have no idea how many weeks I'm supposed to be due to being on the pill. Had anyone ever had a scan like this where the staff seem so sure it's all over then go back a week later and all is ok??
I'm due back in 5 days as they said a second scan is "protocol"

Good luck, I had scans at 4, 5, 6 and 7 weeks with my 2nd as I had a kidney stone and there was no heartbeat for any of them (or obviously anything at all to see at 4 and 5 weeks) but at 8 weeks there she was fine and normal.

I should be 6+6 today so if no heartbeat I will know that it can still take time but they measured bubba week ago today so if there's growth I will be happy but I'm expecting the worst as apparently when bubba gets to 6mm you should see a beat last week was nearly 7mm

Miracle, in 10 days time! Still got quite a wait

Thanks everyone think this past week would have gone crazy if it wasn't for this post you've all been great!

Sadly after an external then internal scan there still isn't a heartbeat and bubba had actually decreased in size!

Paperwork saids gestational age 7 weeks.
Good luck to each and everyone of you I really hope you get a happy outcome.
I appreciate what I do have two beautiful daughters which is more than what some people get so I'm trying to be positive and count my blessing
