Changing table

A) did you bother?
B) did you put in the baby's room or in bathroom?
C) any recommendations?

I'm wondering whether it might be easiest to just get something for the bathroom but the problem is there isn't a huge amount of space. To start with baby will sleep with us and I will change on a mat on the floor but the house is 3. Stories so not sure how it will work after that.

Sorry that posted early....we haven't bothered. We are just putting a changing mat ontop of a chest of draws. Loads of my friends have suggested it

a) no - we bought a chest of drawers and a sponge change mat.

b) Sometimes we put the mat on top of the drawers but mainly kept it in the living room with a little basket of changing supplies

c) cant recommend a decent one as Ive not had one or known anyone who has.

Once the baby goes in its own room it probably wont need cjanging in the night so dont worry about having a changing station in there - just keep a supply of change stuff in the part of the house you will spend most of the daytime in.

We didn't bother - we have a mat on the floor in our bedroom which I find much more comfy, especially now at 11 months when it's a fight to keep her on the mat! (although granted it isn't easy for grandparents to get down but I went for what's easiest for us as we do it 99% of the time)
But then I like sitting down to do most things as I'm lazy Wink
When she goes into her room next month we'll probably move it with her until such time as she's potty trained and we can get rid of it.

We did. It saved my back, DP also got a lot of use out of it.

Also good for storage, we got a mamas and papas one for £20 off eBay :)

A) no, used a changing mat on the (living room) floor or sometimes stuck the mat on the dining room table

We have a changing mat/nappies/wipes etc downstairs and a changing table upstairs that was in our room when the baby was and is now in her room. We're both lazy and didn't want to be going upstairs/downstairs to change nappies depending where we were at the time!

We caved after about 2 months and bought one - DH is tall so having the change mat on a bed was killing his back. IKEA was perfectly fine, it does the job and doesn't need to last forever. We also have a cot top one (we have an upstairs and downstairs change station as I'm lazy! ). Upstairs is on the cot (our bedroom), downstairs is in the back sitting room (only place it will fit). We only have a tiny nappy bin (compost bin) so nappies go out to the main bin daily, less smell.,.

We didn't for ds but we have for this dc.

Reasons are

  1. I feel older and tired we now and don't want the strain on my back when changing on the bed/floor.
  2. I want to be able to change the baby in peace and out of reach of a toddler.

Yep, still use it now she's 2! Planning on keeping for after as it's a set of drawers and cupboard with changer ontop so will become furniture once we stop using it for next dc.
It's the mamas and papas omni range which I got off eBay for about £30 and I love it have even considered getting a matching one for next dc if they share a room Blush

We did, the mamas and papas one, was a godsend for my back and had wheels so I just wheeled it out the nursery and into the bathroom and it had a plug and hose to empty the bath so I didn't have to lug that about either

We didn't get one - small house, decided we would manage changing on the floor. (No chests of drawers with flat tops either.)

I had a long, difficult delivery of a nearly 10 pound boy with damage to my back and hips. Got him home first night and changed him on the floor of the bathroom. Cue me staggering back into the bedroom weeping to dp because I literally couldn't pick him up off the floor again ...

Changing table was ordered from Kiddicare for next day delivery and was a Godsend! We still use it to store toys in (kids are big now).

We did have one but once DS started rolling I changed him on a mat on the floor. The one we have was just an extra bit on top of drawers.

Had one for dc2 didn't use it hardly at all and gave it away before dc3 came along - took up too much room and if you have other dc's was never in a convenient spot.

We were given One which we have in the bathroom - still using it at 9 month's - quite useful for OH esp.

In the early week's we also had the changing bag mat on the floor upstairs for night changes but they were only the first few weeks.

We have an island unit in the kitchen and I put a baby changing mat on that, as well as all other baby items.

It probably sounds unhygienic but I never prepared food on that unit.

At the beginning with dc1 we use done but not for long. We tended to put the mat on the table at the beginning (obviously never leaving baby unattended!) or on the floor and did that for ages. With dc2 it wa the same bit definitely no longer on the table as she's a wriggly little monkey and wouldn't be safe at all!

We have an ikea one in the bathroom.

I sometimes change DS on a mat on the floor but its a lot less comfortable. As its in the bathroom we use cotton pads and water.

We were given an East Coast Clara changing table and despite initially thinking it was vastly OTT it has been wonderful. I have a 2yo and 5yo and have used it several times a day for 5 years. Best cost per use of any baby item we've had. It's saved my back and is plain enough to use as shelves when ds2 is out of nappies. It's much more solid than the ikea ones, IMO.

My experience was that if you want grandparents to change nappies, you need one.

The old version of the Ikea one (look on eBay) is great - baby faces straight on relative to you (not sideways, which is awkward for wiping), and it has three good drawers for clothes. The changing bit folds up and becomes a shelf, once you stop using it.
