So, I'm 28 weeks and we are moving from a one-bed into a two-bed house this Wednesday. Am I mad?? Ha ha! Anyone got any stories/tips about moving house while pregnant? :-)

We moved 200 miles away at 26 weeks pregnant (and moving again next week with a 6 month old!) and to be honest it was fine. Are you using a removal firm, or do you have people to help? We moved ourselves but had friends to help with all the heavy lifting, so I just 'supervised' Grin. Make sure you don't overdo it and take your time with the unpacking at the other end. Hope it goes well.

Im 36 weeks pregnant and about to move house next week! Am panicking and trying to pack up and having a c section in 2 weeks, I must be mad!

Spinaroo · 26/05/2014 11:14

I moved at 6 months with my first-wasn't too bad at all- I packed/ hoovered/ cleaned windows/unpacked at leisure- didn't lift anything heavy though.

Moved again at 34 weeks - different pregnancy -Grin- again did most of the light stuff and was the last to leave the house- very emotional on my own. By the time I got round to the new house- about 5 minutes away- family had very helpfully unpacked a fair amount. Very emotional again later that night as I decided I had made a big mistake and the house was horrid. It's not- but beware of lifting heavy things and sneaky pregnancy horm

Hormones- sorry Grin

We are doing it ourselves but friends and family are helping and I'm banned from lifting anything! I will try to unpack at leisure but I find doing anything at leisure difficult! Thankfully my mum and MIL are both going to be around for two days to help with cleaning, etc.

I'm 25 weeks and meant to be moving soon, but the chain got broken and we might have a but of a delay.

So if you're mad you're not alone. Thing so long as you've got lots of help with the lifting & shifting you'll be fine x

I moved at nearly 30 weeks. We just had family and friends to help with the very heavy lifting. I was mainly in charge of organising and cleaning. Obviously the heavy lifting is out but as long as you've got a couple of people to help with that bit it is no bigger deal than usual.

Best tip is write exactly which room you want the box to go in so they can take it straight there and it doesn't have to be moved again later.

Nothing to do with being pregnant but to make life easier for yourself if you write "kitchen" then write a brief description of what's in it so you're not wading through slow cookers and christmas stuff to find the kettle and toaster!

Good idea!

I'm due to move house in 3 weeks when I'll be 25 weeks....seems to be very common to move during pregnancy and I plan to do as others say, clean and unpack light goods - leave the heavy stuff to the willing volunteers that I'll rope in to help!

i moved at about 30 weeks easiest move ever. no lifting just directing and pointing.

don't forget to ask for help doing cleaning etc when you move in.

good luck

If you search you will find my thread from last month when I moved house. Am now 38 weeks. I found it really got to me as I tried to do so much and felt so dreadfully tired. If your family have agreed to help I'd be inclined to just go out for the day when the main bits are going on and just find a nice cafe to relax and mumsnet in. If weather is good on moving day find a park and take a blanket and just chill out. The less you do the better! Good luck

I'm 35+5 moving into my mams in a couple weeks then moving into my new place a week after that :s leaving me with less then 2 weeks before my due date to get a new place sorted. Gave my landlord 3 month to sort out damp and mould but with no luck so it's been a last minute move out :s

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 07:49

Loads earlier than anyone else on here, but will be moving Friday at nearly 6 weeks! Obviously the move came before the pregnancy Grin

We've enlisted my parents and a couple of big strong friends of DHs to lift stuff and I shall be making tea, cleaning, pointing and putting the beds back together. Going to be tricky keeping it from DHs friends as I'm usually the type of person to get stuck in! One in particular I think will guess.

Nocturne123 · 27/05/2014 09:04

I have a 1 year old and am 6 months pregnant and have just moved :)

I advise to take on the role of supervisor and just take your time , everything will get unpacked eventually !

It definitely wasn't as stressful as I thought it would be . Labelling boxes would be a good idea .. Advice I decided not to take . Good luck!

holdthephone · 27/05/2014 09:21

We moved house when I was 38 weeks pregnant. I was dreading it but it was the easiest move I have ever done- nobody let me do anything!

I was really organised before moving though so we didn't take anything that we hadn't sorted through so it was just putting stuff away.

I also recommend having any baby/ pregnancy stuff easily labelled and to hand as well as the kettle and any key kitchen stuff.
