31 weeks pregnant and a broken leg

Hi
I am 31 weeks pregnant and a couple of days ago had a fall and as a result I have broken 2 bones, in my ankle and leg, as well as all the ankle ligaments. The ankle also dislocated. I had to have this realigned with only gas and air for relief. I am due to have surgery next week once the swelling is reduced although I have to have this under a spinal rather than general anaesthetic which I am really scared about.

It's a nightmare, so painful and uncomfortable. I can't put any weight on my leg for approx 8 weeks which is alarmingly close to my due date. I am taking daily blood thinning injections to avoid clots. This can increase risk of bleeding during birth.

I am also mum to a 2 year old who doesn't really understand that I can't do anything for her at the moment. This is breaking my heart as I had hoped to make these last few weeks with her before te baby comes special.

I suppose I am just asking for advice really. Anyone here been through anything similar?

No advice but you poor thing, it sounds awful!

I hope things go as smoothly and painlessly as possible for you Thanks

So sorry to hear this. I'm in no way pg (my dc are 10,12,14) but 3 weeks ago I slipped, broke my ankle and leg, had emergency surgery at 9pm, and was 10 days in hospital until I could move enough to go home!

I'm on the clexane injections for clotting too and am trying hard to mobilise a bit more but the hopping on a zimmer frame, and doing lots of knitting!!

I can't imagine how hard this must be with wee ones and about to have another, but I'm here to empathise if you want. I did break my wrist when dd1 was almost 2, 3 months before ds was born. That was a nightmare with the nappies!

Hope you get better soon!

Poor you. I broke my arm at a similar stage with dd1. I had to have a general to reset it as I was so stressed out. Doesn't sound as bad as yours though.

Hope you've got someone to help you out

Thanks all. It is truly horrible. I'm gutted and dreading the thought of labour immobile in a cast.
