I'm 22 weeks pregnant with DC3. Last night, it took me hours to get to sleep as my right leg was really twitchy. It's hard to describe but sometimes it felt a little like when you have pins and needles and the blood starts to flow again - like a tingling, and then often it would feel jumpy.

It was so bad and lasted so long I wanted to cry!

Anyone else suffering from what I assume must be a trapped nerve? Any advice as to what might help?

I had restless legs syndrome when pg, it used to only happen in bed. Not sure if that's what you could have but it can happen in pg. (Am 14wks now again so hoping i don't get it again!) No useful solutions tho sorry! Hopefully somebody else might be of more use Smile

Were your symptoms the same as what I've described above?

I did google "twitchy legs pregnancy" and nearly all the results on the first page mentioned Restless Legs Syndrome - which I'd never heard of until today. Nothing I've read mentions a cure though - certainly not one that I can do at 2 o' clock in the morning!

The quinine in tonic water can help a bit. Restless legs are really annoying.

Jesus it's annoying!

I had restless leg syndrome when I was pregnant with my first child and it lasted until I gave birth. It was horrendously annoying. When I first got it (around 24 weeks) it was just when I went to bed but towards the end of my pregnancy I would experience the twitchiness and pins & needles when ever I sat down to relax. Currently 6 weeks pregnant and really hoping I don't get it again.

Restless leg syndrome is so irritating! I had it with my 3rd pregnancy and hated it. I tried warm baths, and getting up and walking around, but I'm not sure whether either thing helped.

I've had restless legs throughout most of this pregnancy ... Is so annoying and the main cause of my insomnia. I've been drinking tonic water (lots of) and it really helps - definitely recommend it

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 20/05/2014 17:01

Try having a banana every day too, MW recommended this to me and it worked but I had restless arms, not legs Confused

livingzuid · 20/05/2014 17:09

Yes to tonic water. I have drunk tons of it and it helps a lot. I have had restless legs and arms, it was good for both.

Missingcaffeine · 20/05/2014 19:05

It might also be sciatica if it's more of a numbness/pins and needles. That is common in pregnancy as well as restless legs. Rubbish isn't it! I get restless legs and sciatica at 22 weeks.

I've had months of struggling to sleep through this then I got a foot spa I used that while drinking tonic water. I had my first decent nights sleep only waking up once with a restless foot but I kept a tonic water by my bed and it sorted it straight out

I have this too. Thanks for the post OP and for the tonic water/banana tips everyone. Will be giving that a try tomorrow Smile

mandbaby · 21/05/2014 12:39

Thanks everyone - I'm off to buy some tonic water and bananas too!
