I thought I would share my experience of having a very high cervix and being overdue, I remember reading posts while I was pregnant and didn't believe it would ever drop, so hopefully if your in the same boat this should give you some hope, or if you had the same please share yours too !
This only happened with my third child, I had my first failed sweep at 2 days overdue the midwife couldn't even reach my cervix (was very uncomfortable!!!!!) my second 'failed' sweep was at 5 days after my due date again couldn't reach and very uncomfortable BUT I was so so uncomfortable after having it done my cervix actually felt like it was aching. Decided to have a long walk with my two children & my other half. Got back and noticed old blood this lasted only for a day and cleared up. Felt so annoyed. The next day I had a pink discharge in the morning.

7days over due! At around half 9 in the evening I had very very mild cramp in the tops of my thighs and my cervix was sore again really didn't think much of it (have worse period pains!) it got to around half 11 and took a paracetamol and was getting ready for bed but my mum turned up insisting I get checked out. So we got everything sorted my other halfs mum came to look after the kids they were still asleep.

We got to the hospital at around 12-12:30 walked up to the desk with all the midwifes looking at me as if to say what are you doing here was in no pain whatsoever! Got checked out was expecting to be at a push 1-2cm I was In fact 7-8cm and progressing really quickly MY CERVIX WAS STILL HIGH!!. I've no idea how the midwife could feel the contractions on my bump Because I couldn't feel a thing ! The midwife was shocked too she said she thought she was going to send me home.

I had my baby at 4 in the morning with no drugs & normal blood loss (8 days over & my smallest baby) ! (Apart from that one paracetamol at home !) I was so pleased with myself actually cried 'I did it I did it' afterwards. My other two labours I had an epidural both times. My first labour was horrific he was back to back and stuck finally had an epidural 16 hours after asking for one was in labour just over 24 hours ended up with forceps & prepped for a c section and almost died from blood loss ! My second labour was fine I coped well but they offered me an epidural I panicked and agreed also had a major blood loss but no where near as bad as the first time

So if your cervix is high you really have nothing to worry about !

Thank you! I have a stupidly high cervix - they can never find the thing on a smear without half the surgery coming in for a look and having to use an extra-long speculum (makes a girl feel goo and a husband feel inadequated!). Had 2 failed sweeps so far. 1st time couldn't even find the thing, second one found the tip but that's all. And bloody uncomfy cos so much furtling is needed :-/. Beginning to doubt this child is ever going to get out in the usual fashion. Meant to be induced tomorrow but if they can't even find a cervix to put a pessary behind....... Stupid anatomy. Grumble grumble.....

Thanks for sharing, I'm going in for my first sweep tomorrow and ideally they'd like to induce me this week (raised bp), but I'm the same, always need the extra long speculum for smear tests so I'm not looking forward to the fun and games that are to follow!
