Night sweats after giving birth?

Might sound weird lol but I had my baby 5 weeks ago this Saturday coming up.

Every night I wake up soaking wet. Not just my hair feeling damp but soaking, woke up last night and I know were having hot weather but my legs were dripping wet.

I feel disgusting even my pillow was soaked.

I had pre clampsia. And since giving birth I've lost 31 pounds in 4 weeks. So is it my body getting rid of water. Or summit else.

Any body else had this

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hot flushes are associated with hormones bouncing round (I'd usually think menopause, but can think of no reason why it wouldn't go with the huge post-parturition changes).

Will you be seeing HV soon? Worth mentioning.

I had this, I used to wake up with the sheets completely soaked but it didn't last long, maybe a few weeks. I never found out what was causing it, just wanted to reassure you that you're not the only one!

I had a pretty normal pg and had this for about 5-6 weeks after birth. It was terrible went through so many p.js and was constantly washing the bedding and having a shower whenever someone could watch the baby because I felt so dirty, but then after a few weeks it just went away. As meditrina said your hormones are all over the place and that's what's causing it.
Totally normal as far as I know my gp and hv never said to worry about it.
Congratulations Thanks

It is normal.. irritating but it passes. I can't remember when though.

Pregnantagain7 · 20/05/2014 10:17

Yes it's normal I had it and was told it's your body's way of getting rid of all the extra water it carries when you're pregnant. I was constantly weeing too, still took about three weeks till my hobbit feet went back to normal:)

hedgehogy · 20/05/2014 10:22

I had night sweats too, I also sweated a lot during the day if I walked anywhere (it's very unusual for me to sweat, even when exercising). I was worried it would be permanent, but it did stop after a few months or so.

Bramshott · 20/05/2014 10:24

Completely normal - I had to sleep on a towel, and still woke up with wrinkly fingers!

Sweetpea86 · 20/05/2014 10:31

Thanks ladies glad I'm not the only one. I ended up having emcs and was worried it was infection but hv checked my wound and it's completely healed and only a little sore when I over do things. I forgot to mention night sweats so will check next time.

Yet another thing your not warned about pregnancy and after pregnancy lol.

It has calmed down a little bit the first two weeks were sweating like I'd never sweated before but still waking up soaked lol hopefully will pass soon
thanks fellow sweaty ladies Grin

I thought this was just me! I had pre eclampsia and have lost 38lbs in under 3 weeks. Glad it's just hormones and I am looking forward to my sausage feet going back to normal!!

BakingBunty · 20/05/2014 16:05

I had exactly the same after DS was born. It really freaked me out! I was told that it was the body getting rid of excess water, combined with hormones. I slept on a towel to cut down on washing! And found that it got a lot better after the first three weeks.

On the plus side, the weight fell off me, which suggests that a lot of my weight gain was water (as well as cake!!).
