Quick Q about nuchal fold test

I know the nuchal fold test result isn't given to you on the day because they have to combine the measurements they take then with data from the blood tests. With blood having been taken about 2 weeks before the scan date, how long would it typically be between the scan date and getting the result through?

My bloods for the NT were taken on the day of the scan, the bloods that were taken previously (at my booking appointment) were to test for my blood group, and the various other things listed in my notes.

My letter with my test results came through about a week after my scan. Smile

Just keep in mind though that the nuchal and bloods doesn't give a yes/no. It gives a risk or probability so you may end up with more questions than answers.

Ah I hadn't realised that the first lot of blood wasn't used for the nuchal results. What an inefficient system! Thank you :-)

I got my results the same day as the scan, I had my bloods taken a couple of days before hand.

My midwife said to me at booking in (which was 9 days before the scan) that they couldn't use the blood she had taken as it had to be taken within a week of the scan in order for it to be as accurate as possible.

My results (using blood taken on the day of the scan) arrived in the post exactly a week after the scan.

Gingerandcocoa · 20/05/2014 10:03

My bloods were taken about an hour before the scan and I was given the results at the scan (admittedly my scan took ages as baby wouldn't get into position).

Interesting Thisis. The FMC's Harmony package involves taking the blood for the Harmony and usual nuchal tests at one visit and measuring the nuchal fold and giving the Harmony result at a second visit two weeks later. I was given the nuchal results at the second visit.

gunwalloe · 20/05/2014 10:41

Just echoing eurochick my blood was taken at 10 weeks at the FMC then the nuchal scan done and results given same day at 12 weeks. I wish all hcps would give the same information!

BeetlingAbout · 20/05/2014 12:01

My blood was taken straight after the scan. I was also told the measurements during the scan, and told they were good, but it could only be fully interpreted once they had the blood test results.

I got the combined results through a few days later, but they had warned it could be up to two weeks.

You don't need to have the first set of bloods taken at your booking appointment. I got all mine done the same day at my scan.

ruth1104 · 20/05/2014 13:26

My results took weeks and weeks, but the mw said if you were high risk they'd get hold of you fairly quickly so I don't think there's a hard and fast rule

Secretlypregnant · 20/05/2014 13:28

My blood was taken about ten days before and I got the results on the day of the scan as they had the blood results already. I think it depends which part of the country you're in as to how it works.

EssexGirlLottie · 20/05/2014 20:00

So I had my bloods taken on the same day as my scan. They said if I was high risk, the hospital would phone 3-4 days after. If low risk (as I was), I received a letter within 2-3 weeks. HTH

Thanks all for these responses. looks like it's hugely variable then. interesting!
