Is low blood pressure ok?

My bp is low and has been low all thru pregnancy. None of midwives seem to be worried or bothered by it. I am getting really stressed by it I dunno why! Even bought a monitor to keep checking it. Anyone else with low bp????

Mine has always been low and was low all through pg. mw not concerned at all- high bp can be risky. My baby turned out perfectly. Grin

How low is low? Fit young women tend to have low blood pressure. Pregnancy makes your blood pressure fall. So a 'low' blood pressure is very normal in pregnancy. The good old 120/80 is probably at the upper end of expected.

Also - do you know what's normal for you? In your non pregnant state? Either way, as you're perfusing your brain enough to think about it, you're probably totally fine :-). If you're getting symptomatic (dizziness, fainting) hav a word with you mw. Although, still probably part of the normal joys of pregnancy.

It's a bit of a pain in the arse if it makes you dizzy, but nothing to worry about.

oohdaddypig · 14/05/2014 23:13

I had it both times. Mine is low anyway. Mine was below low-normal and no one seemed bothered Hmm

Does it make you dizzy? I had to stand up slowly which was annoying.

Mine is always low in pg - 80/60 pretty normal for me when pg. somewhere nearer 100/70 when not pg.

If it's extremely low it can be a worry, but if it was that low you wouldn't be posting on MN Smile

Low blood pressure preferable to high blood pressure if you see what I mean and something thet is very common in pregnancy.
My BP at midwife appointment yesterday was 96/60 which is considered low but as my BP is usually on the low side and I feel ok the midwife wasn't concerned.
If your BP does drop low it can make you feel lightheaded/faint or you might get stars in front of your eyes. Just take care not to get up too quickly and speak to your midwife if you feel unwell or BP drops very low frequently.

I had low blood pressure before and during pregnancy. It did seem to become a problem in advanced labour though because I kept blacking out when I got up. So all plans for an active birth went right out the window. Served me right for my smug 8 months pregnant gym workouts Wink.

But me and the dc's were fine. And the midwives / consultants didn't make a fuss about it.

Low blood pressure is v healthy, but can make you feel a bit faint.

Mine is always low and lower when pregnant Grin
I am prone to fainting and recognise the sigs so sit/lie down before I actually conk out (which seems to be so alarming to those around me Wink).

Low blood pressure protects you against strokes and heart attacks all sorts of other vascular problems in the long run, so don't worry about it (and stop checking it yourself).

Eat and drink regularly, make sure you have some slow-release carbs on board, don't get too hot/bored/stand too long, particularly when expecting.

Sometimes I have a coffee for medicinal purposes…
