Hi, I have my first doctors appointment to confirm pregnancy tomorrow. Excited Grin can anyone tell me what the doctor will do / ask? Will he do a test or bloods? Thanks Smile

It probably varies in different areas. My GP asked if I'd done a reliable home test (ClearBlue digital in my case) and when, and was satisfied with that. They will probably want to know the date of your LMP for dating purposes and might ask you for your medical history to decide if you need to see a consultant in the early stages. Do you know roughly how far along you are? Smile

Loads of family medical questions. They also measure weight, height, blood pressure etc. They won't get you to do another pregnancy test.

Congratulations!!

My first doctors appointment was literally 5 seconds. I told him, and he said to go to reception and book a midwife appointment. He didn't do another test or anything, just told me to make sure I'm taking folic acid.
It was at my booking appointment with the midwife that I had all the questions , forms , blood pressure etc.

First doctors appointment went like this:
Doctor: how can I help
Me: I am pregnant
Doctor: ok I will refer you to the midwife who will send you an appointment for booking in

All the questions and blood tests are done at the booking in appointment with your midwife.

I didn't even see a doctor! Mentioned that I was pregnant to the nurse who did my asthma review, and she told me to go to reception on the way out and get them to ask the midwife to call me.

Mine was blood pressure, choosing which hospital I wanted to be referred to (I wasn't expecting that and next to no information was given) and filling in a form that I could have done in a fraction of the time by myself. Completely pointless, but they don't let you self refer to a mw in my area.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 14/05/2014 15:49

I saw GP when pg first time. She asked me whether I'd done a home test, when my last period was, did the little paper wheel thing to work out my EDD, asked me if I smoked (no), was taking folic acid (yes) and told me to make an appointment with the MW. It was quite an anti-climax

Second time I just went straight to the MW...

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/05/2014 15:55

My GP referred me to the mw, took my blood pressure and gave me some folic acid. That was about it. She was lovely though.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 14/05/2014 15:56

Mine said "When was your last period, are you happy about being pregnant? Have you taken a home pregnancy test? Please go pee in this pot" done.

I then got referred to the MWs for a Booking In which happens at home. Thats when my bloods got taken, and happened arpund ten weeks.

Mine gave me a ton of leaflets and filled in a referal form. 3 minutes max.

in my new area you can self refer, so didn't see GP all pregnancy.

cheshirem2b · 14/05/2014 19:14

Mine was yesterday. I needed a folic acid prescription, went in, told him what I wanted and walked out 3mins later. Didn't weigh me. Nothing. Only question was have you arranged apt with mw? Yes. Well in that case, good luck with your pregnancy.
