DH staying sober in late pregnancy

Just after some opinions about what others have done/are doing. I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby. DH and I had decided that he shouldn't drink alcohol from 37 weeks just in case he needs to drive me to the hospital. However he's been invited out at the weekend, so he's delaying sobriety until next week.
None of his friends have kids and once baby arrives his social life will end for some time, so I'm all for him making the most of the chance to go out with his mates. I may be pregnant for another 4 weeks before I'm induced after all.
What did others do in this situation? Did you have a gestation cut-off when he stayed in and stayed sober? Did anyone just continue going out as normal and hope the early stages of labour allowed time to sober-up?!

I thought you were only supposed to go to hospital once in active labour? If you turned up still fit to drive round here they'd probably send you home!

If you turned up at my local hospital able to drive and park the car, they would examine you and almost certainly send you home as not in established labour. They don't admit you in 'early' labour unless there is some other problem.

Bumpforme - I know your DH was joking, but I sincerely hope you pointed out that the word he was looking for was taxi, not ambulance. Labour is not a 999 event.

You dot go to hospital until you are I. Established labour! As others have said you would be turned away if still at the stage where you are able to drive. As it happens my labour was too intense right from the start to have driven. My contractions were close together right from the start and just got more painful as time went on, I would NOT have been safe to drive.
