red spotting 14 weeks - Anyone had the same?

Hi thanks for reading,

I'm 14 weeks 1 day pregnant from IVF and I went to the bathroom at 6 this morning and when I wiped I had about 5/6 bright red spots of blood and cramping. I haven't had any bleeding or spotting up until this point but have had quite a bit of cramping throughout the pregnancy. I spoke to the out of hours gp and they brought me in straight away where they checked that my cervix was closed, couldn't see any more blood and sent me away saying everything looked fine.

My dh and I were still v worried so we managed to get a private scan for this lunchtime. Everything looked absolutely fine, measuring correct for dates and baby was wriggling around on the screen. They couldn't see any reason for the bleeding and the placenta is in a good position. I haven't had any more bleeding since the spotting this morning but still slightly crampy.

Has anyone else had any experience of this and everything was okay? I don't know whether to be reassured that all was okay at the scan as worrying every time I go to the bathroom. I'm coming off progesterone supplements at the moment so not sure if this was the reason for the spotting?

I bled like this in both my pregnancies. During my first pregnancy I bled at around 11 weeks...only a bit like how you describe. I then went on to have bleeds every few weeks. My second pregnancy wasn't as bad but I bled quite a bit at around 14 weeks. Both my girls were born fit and healthy so I wouldn't worry too much. Its pretty normal so ive been told. Its wise to always get checked out though, that's what they told me. It's hard I know as I worried constantly throughout mine!

Hello yorkie I had episodes of spotting in both my pregnancies and all was well. In my first pregnancy I had some at about 12 weeks and then again from about 16 weeks to 20 ! It was so scary and no cause was found.
The fact that you have had a scan and it's all looking good is the thing to try to focus on.
Easier said than done I know.

Thanks liveinthe you're right the only thing I can focus on is that the scan was okay at the moment. Just pleased I was able to get a scan on a Sunday at such short notice.

Were you told to rest up or just carry on as normal?

They never gave me a reason for the bleeding and didn't give me any specific advice about resting etc. It's really reassuring that you've had your scan and great you didn't have to wait. I remember with my first pregnancy I had to wait about 4 days for a scan and it was awful, particularly being my first. Good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine. If it does happen again it might be just what myself and others have experienced too.

That must have been awful having to wait so long for a scan - you must have been going out of your mind. I was v impressed by how quickly nhs got me in to see someone at 7 in the morning on a Sunday. Thanks again for responding.

hope you are feeling a bit more relaxed after the other replies. I had no idea how worrying pregnancy was until I experienced it - and it was just as tough second time round.
I wasn't given an extra scan either time - but I think maybe that was a reflection of how unconcerned the HCPs were!
no advice to rest either - so I guess just do what keeps you sane.

I had this at 18wks and was shitting myself as previous mc. I spent the night before crying in hubbys arms saying i cant loose this one and how i felt so useless as it was how mc had started before. Wed been out all night for his 31st burthday but id sat down most of it :) sept for toilet trips and walking between pubs. I rang maternity unit the next morning and they checked me over all was fine :) got to hear his heartbeat and swishing around in there hehe im sure everythings ok chuck x

Thanks liveinthe and boogles It's good to read others have been through something similar and all was well as the Internet just has scary stories, I know how you felt boogles I've also had a mc and then it took another 18 months to conceive this one using ivf so I absolutely petrified when I saw red blood and convinced that it was all over for us. No red blood again since so desperately hoping that it was a one off. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

I know this is old but literally going through exactly the same this morning had a scan and everything is fine cervix closed and no reason for other than I might have a infection because I swollen down there I’m wondering even after 5 years did it all end up being okay for you? X
