hi i was a teen mum, i'm 24 now, why can't you take a test?

SophieB · 29/08/2006 12:38

Hi im 22, baby is due in 3 weeks! Why are you unable to take a test?

shhhh · 29/08/2006 12:39

There are lots. How old are you.? I'm not what you would class as a young mum at 27 but I hate being classed as older .

There will be lots of young mums along soon for you to chat to. I know one of our new additions is Kat. She joined us and had baby within days. Kat I believe is 15 and baby was prem but all is ok from what I last heard.
You will get lots of supports here..

When can you test..?

dlittle29 · 29/08/2006 12:48

im not sure when i can take a test. my periods are irregular, i bought a test but it says to allow for your longest cycle so i have to wait about a week or so i think.
im 15. thank you for being so friendly

tbh I wouldn't be able to wait so long...I would try it now...

waterfalls · 29/08/2006 12:51

I would test now, if you need to do another one, your gp can do one, that way its free and confidential.

waterfalls · 29/08/2006 12:52

dlittle29
Do you have any support at home? Are you ok with the idea of being pregnant.

Kidstrack · 29/08/2006 12:56

i would test now, then test again in a week, you are young so finding out as soon as possible would benefit you in getting your head around things. You obviously know there is a chance you could be pregnant therefore i would try find out as soon as possible. I presume you want to have the baby if you are pregnant and therefore you need to be taking folic acid which will be available from your gp/midwife, thats why you need to find out asap

dlittle29 · 29/08/2006 13:01

i havent talked to my parents or anything, i'm not very close to them but i know they'd support me whatever happens, they've always made that really clear. also my boyfriend is very supportive.
at first i was absolutely terrified but now the idea is sinking in, i'm okay with it i think.

hi, i'm 22, had dd at 20 and have just had ds so not a teen mom but close enough. theres alot of young mums on MN so you should find plenty of people to talk to

definitely do the test now, like others have said if you get a negative and still think your preg your gp will do one for you but it's very impotant to find out for sure and start taing the folic acid

good luck!

SophieB · 29/08/2006 13:07

I took a test a couple of days after my period was due and it came out positive, id take a test now then again in a week. My parents went mad when i told them, but because i was in a steady relationship they came round to the idea, did take them a few months but now they carnt wait until the baby is here. Im sure your parents will be ok.

emzickle · 29/08/2006 13:07

Im 19... my baby is due in 6 weeks time. eeeek

good luck! let us know how you get on

BettySpaghetti · 29/08/2006 13:16

Hi there dlittle29

If you are pregnant make sure you see your GP asap so s/he can advise you on everything like folic acid, foods to avoid etc.

Also ask them if theres a group in your area for young mums. These tend to be in cities rather than small towns but ask anyway. I worked in an area where they had an excellent ante/post natal groups for teenage mums -the midwife and HV were trained to work with younger mums and could advise about continuing schooling/college/ entitlement to benefits and housing etc.

Good luck

prettymum · 29/08/2006 13:22

Ok sweetie, had to butt in here, first things first before you start worrying about other young mums you need to get yourself sorted. You are very young and you need help through this - even the ancients among us need tons of support if/when pregnant so it's not just about age.

You need to know if you are pregnant as soon as possible and then you need advice and support whether you are or aren't. If you don't want to talk to your mum yet you can ring or go online to these places for confidential free help:

mumsnet is great but it's not enough at the moment for you
