...so I will just have a moan here. Saw a friend's mum yesterday for the first time since I got pregnant and her first comment was, "Oh, your bump is quite low, isn't it?"

Thanks for that, worrying me totally unnecessarily...

i got the exact same comment last week! "Oh, you're carrying low, aren't you? here, stand next to this teachers who is due a week before you so we can compare..." Great. Thanks.

Other current favourites:
"Wow, your bump's huge! He's definitely going to be early" (except my bump measured spot on with the midwife last week).

and

"You're still cycling?! I really don't think you should be, not now" (except midwife praised my cycling last week and it's a hell of a lot easier than walking)

The cycling one really bugs me. I get it at least twice a day. Heaven forbid a pregnant woman wants to try and stay healthy and mobile!

My 'huge bump' has been a topic of conversation for everyone for months now it seems. I think it is slightly big actually, but the baby himself is a normal size and nothing was picked up at my last scan. So thanks to those people who have said things like, "You must retain a lot of fluid" or "You sure it's not twins??" (Oh, how hilarious...)

People should go and get a life. How vulgar and common they show themselves to be (wealth and class are two different things I hasten to add, you can have (be) latter without former).
I don't comment on the appearance of others, yet seems pregnancy is deemed to be the appropriate excuse to start dishing out opinion. The worst thing? If you retaliate- you will be the one seen to be in the wrong!

People say my bump is 'huge' as well. Midwife said to me that no one ever tells a pregnant woman their bump is exactly the right size! I think they just see you with this new addition to your body and so exclaim over it. It is annoying. People keep asking me if I have long to go and when I say '3 months left' they act in exaggerated surprise, 'oh, you'll be so big by then!' Arseholes.

People assertively telling me they're certain of the gender drives me mad. Especially if I disagree (backed up by nub theory, bicarbonate of soda test and side of implantation, obviously this isn't necessarily going to be correct but it has more weight than a random prediction!) and get told no I must be wrong...

I have this friend who keeps saying to me ooh look at that gut (like every time I see her) no love I'm pregnant just because I'm always thinner than you and now I'm not do you have to make yourself feel better by saying it in front of my family and friends!! I never know what to say back should I be upset or f**k off am I over reacting? sorry to piggy bag your thread jones

Urgh, I had the 'sure it's not twins?' Comment the other day.
When has it ever been acceptable to make someone feel they are abnormally big?!
I'm planning on crying an guilting people loads more this pregnancy seeing as I just smiled and died on the inside last time.

I get shocked looks when I say I am 29 weeks, I was measured just this week and the midwife said I was measuring exactly right for the number if weeks. Yes I have out on weight but as I'm only 5'1" it shows a lot more (well that's my excuse). I even had a male colleague as work mentioned that my boobs hadn't grown much. I did give him my thoughts about being so rude and personal.

I have had several people tell me my bump is too small then ask how many months. FFS how can you say it is small? Its a 2nd trimester bump, medically I seem very average sized- I'd be giant for 1st tri, tiny for 3rd.

Its worse when they WON'T back down and insist, using acecdotal stories, that its tiny. If any say "this is your 1st" I'm afraid I do snap back "Yes I lost several, hence if anything was too small MY ANTI MISCARRIAGE CONSULTANT WOULD HAVE ME IN HOSPITAL NOW!" GRRR. 1st baby does not mean you don't understand the Dr telling you facts... It does mean often the bump is smaller.

Still trying this is month 5, but I recently realised that the pre conception vits I've been taking as recommended by my doctor, affect the absorption of my thyroxine as prescribed by my doctor, who didn't tell me! So I've most likely been sub fertile the whole time we've been trying anyway hopefully it will happen soon! So glad things are going well with you...and your bump looks just fine from over here

GRR....my parents opinions on what THEY THINK makes for good parents (smacking, routine etc etc) even before baby is here is driving me NUTS. My mums insistence on which names she hates (ie. her way of telling me not to use them!!). And her saying things like "you'll be fine" when i never implied I WOULDN'T be!! ARGH!!

The "ohhh it's definitely a girl" "oh it's a boy because you're carrying like this" are really starting to annoy me. How the hell do you know?? I don't know. Sure it's a 50/50 guess but you've got a 50% chance of looking silly because you are so sure.
Only 5 more weeks to go!

Ha ha! Love it! I've got 12 weeks to go and it feels like a lifetime...

moomin35 what names were those? MIL did a "laugh out loud" when I mentioned one of our possible choices. Well that's ruined that then.

My MIL very firmly gives her opinion on name suggestions too...

My mother came for a totally unnecessary visit at 34 weeks which exhausted me, and despite me telling her not to come. She'd already made several highly irritating comments about my diet throughout pregnancy - I have hg and pretty much can only eat what decides to stay down, be it McDonald's through to gala melon - and this visit was nonstop side comments, geez she went on and on. To the point where she declared at dinner that I never ate salad as a child or an adult and how awful it was I hit the roof and had a right go back. It did finally get through and the comments stopped but took the whole visit. Rhinoceros hide doesn't even begin to cover it.

Also totally with others on the bump thing. At 36+4 I am now huge. Why comment on my shape and size? Eff off! Don't you think I feel crap about it already! And as for diving the sex by touching it well don't get me started on the invasion of body space. I was so shocked when a waitress did it unwarned I was frozen in place then went home and cried.
