Chances of incompetent cervix after 2. D&c then full term birth

Hiya everyone

I am worried about everything right now. My most recent being incompetent cervix.

Basically I've had 2 previous losses:

1st had a d&c
2nd had medication to make the tissue pass which didn't work and so required another d&c

I then had my dc which I carried full term (38. Weeks)

Does anyone know the likelihood of having an incompetent cervix after carrying full term already?

Has anyone else had previous d&c a without any issues in subsequent pregnancies

I had ds, then had two d&c's. We then lost a baby during the second trimester and I was induced and had to deliver, then had another d&c a week later due to retained placenta. DD was born in Jan, healthy and at 39+3.
It is normal to worry about everything, especially during pregnancy. Just try to remember that chances are everything will be fine

As far as I know, there is no reason to particularly suspect you would be at risk of an incompetent cervix with your history, especially since your last pregnancy was normal and to term.

Is there something which has set you worrying about this?

Do you mean ERPC? They don't do D&C on the NHS now, as the scraping (rather than suction) can scar the uterus.

If you had your DC after, it would mean your cervix is fine.

Many, many women (the majority of those who have had losses and surgical treatment, or terminations) have the operation, sometimes more than once, without scarring or cervical issues.

I believe it was suction similar to an elective abortion as I was told it opened the cervix very minimally

Is it true that my cervix is likely ok after having my daughter? Even though she was 2 weeks early?

I'm not sure what has set me off but I do suffer from anxiety and OCD so it was almost certainly be related to that also !!

Mummy the suction method is very gentle. From what I've heard if the cervix is dangerously weak it fails very early (several months not 2 weeks) - so you may be prone to slightly early babies, but not to that extent. Check with your mw maybe?

My dd was born after 3 d&c's mummy, and the doctors never mentioned anything about a possible incompetent cervix. Are you pregnant now? If so then maybe you could let them know at your next appointment that you're worried - I'm sure they check the cervix when they scan so they can hopefully put your mind at rest

Shroomboom yes currently 16 weeks.

I did ask when pregnant with my daughter but there didn't seem to be much concern. Eventually after asking constantly I was given an extra scan just to check cervix length and no funnelling and my daughter came at 38 weeks.

I may ask them at my 20 week scan just to have a wee look at the cervix to put my mind at rest.

I'm hoping that after having a full term pregnancy any issues with an incompetent cervix would have raised its head then.

Did you have any extra monitoring in your pregnancy?

Been there - anxiety and previous losses - know how scary it can be especially with Google scaring us.

I did have extra monitoring, but only because we've been through such a traumatic time over the past few years. The consultant who saw me regularly took us on as she knew that we needed tlc... Every time my cervix was checked it was always fine though.

I know what it's like to worry. During dd's pregnancy it was constant and I was convinced something would go wrong, but it didn't. I still can't believe she's here safe and sound.
