Me again!
I'm so fed up! I had my first mw appt yesterday and still don't feel any better, if anything I feel worse! I got all these books etc and I just feel like a fraud as I just don't belive I'm pregnant even through I've took 15 hpts and had urine hosp test done . I did tell my midwife this and she laughed and said her midwife friend was the same way and was convinced there wouldn't be a baby on scan. It's starting to get me down abit now .. Anyway my question is, how long after your first midwife appt did you get your letter for your scan? And how long was your scan after your appt? Also where the dates your midwife gave you and the date the scan gave you for due dates a lot differnt ?

Hi aley, don't stress! You definitely aren't alone in feeling like it's not quite real. I still feel that way sometimes and I've just had my 12 week scan. It's just really hard to connect that abstract idea of a baby with something actually growing inside me. Now I've seen it, it is sinking in but it's still a slow process Smile

My scan letter came through about a week after my MW appointment and my scan was about 10 days later, though I'd already had a scan at 8 weeks as there some dating issues. At booking in my EDD was 17th November and the scan was consistent with that, but I think it's quite common for it to change a few days either way when measurements are taken at the scan. I think it would be unusual for it to change massively though.

I got both my booking app letter and 12 week scan app letter on the same day.

I felt exactly the same about not believing I was pregnant. I had no symptoms and felt completely normal apart from tiredness. Then at 11+4, I saw this little bean moving around on a screen, wiggling away and bouncing around inside me. It was the most bizarre experience ever, how can something that's 5cm long be wiggling away and I can't feel it. I'm now 16 weeks and still have moments of "is this real" but as my ever growing bump proves, yes it is.

It does take a while to sink in and I'm sure I will think that it's all a bit surreal until I'm holding my wee mallow.

Got my scan letter about a week after booking in. Went to mw when I was about 7-8 weeks so it was 4 weeks after appt. My mw gave me a due date of the 22nd Dec then the scan gave us a date of Christmas Eve-DS came on the 22nd. I felt very much a fraud and fully expected an empty screen at the scan!! OH kept asking if the mw also did a pregnancy blood test at the booking in appt as we'd just done 2 hpt tests that were 90p from Home Bargains!!!!

You could consider a private scan at 8 weeks? Due to spotting, I ended up having one at my EPU at 7 weeks, but I think if I hadn't had that I would have paid for a private one anyway. I needed the reassurance...

I have only had spotting two times on seperate occasions , one tiny little spot of blood about the size of a full stop , I actually Just had this happen. I'm now freaking out as it was more red in colour than before. It was a tiny miniscule amount but I am exhausted today. I am 10 weeks tomorrow , is this a concern? No more bleeding or anything since

I wouldn't have thought that amount was a concern; even if it's reddish, it's unlikely to be fresh bleeding if it was one speck and no more. But if you're ever unsure, it's best to call the mw and check - that's what she's there for Smile

aley1989 · 08/05/2014 13:30

It was a very tiny amount I was just abit concerned about the colour as I heared a more red colour wasn't ideal but it was a tiny amount which I only noticed as I am constantly paranoid. I've been extremely hormonal today so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it

'Red' blood is worrying because it indicates a fresh bleed, whereas brownish blood is generally just old blood that's passing out of the system. But if the amount was that small, personally I wouldn't be concerned. That said, if you're really worried or if you notice more bleeding or a pinkish discolouration when you wipe after peeing, I'd call the midwife for reassurance. It's better for you to have peace of mind Smile

You can call your midwife and ask to be referred to the EPU for a scan if you've had any amount of spotting.

For lots of people it's the reassurance they need, for me it detected a MMC. Chances are you'll be fine, many people experience a little spotting and go on to have healthy pregnancies.

Try not to worry too much about a tiny amount of spotting. I had a very large bleed (like first day of a heavy period) at 13 weeks and was terrified. Everything was fine, the mw said that some women have spotting and bleeding throughout their pregnancies- any pain is more of a worry I think- although I talked myself into a bit of aching!
The tiredness actually got better for me after 12 weeks. Just try and relax if you can.

aley1989 · 08/05/2014 18:40

Hi Thankyou for your replies It helped I also finally got a call back from
My midwife she was worried as she thought I had been bleeding but when I explained the whole situation how it was just one speck and how small it was she said it sounds fine she had arranged that if I had any bleeding through the night to go to my gp for an assessment but she doesn't feel I will need to and she too mentioned that sometimes women bleed . So I'm going to keep an eye on it and hope all is ok

I got a letter with both my 8 wk and 12 wk scan appointments on it about a week after I self-referred myself (ie never saw a doctor). I found it all a bit weird until I got a bump to be honest. I knew I was pregnant but didn't look it. My 'proper' bump didn't really develop until 19 wks either. Now I'm 26 wks and definitely look it and I'm really enjoying this stage:-)
