Does baby size run in families?

I was just wondering if you are more likely to have a big/small/average baby if other members of your family have had big/small/average babies, assuming you go to full term or thereabouts? Or is it all just down to the individual woman and each pregnancy.

Big babies seem quite common on my mum's side of the family. I am a twin, so obviously my brother and I were a bit smaller (although we still added up to nearly 13lbs between us). But my mum was 9.7 and her sisters were 10 something and 11 something. And most of my cousins were around the same sorts of weights.

i'm 27 weeks and measuring totally average so far....

I have 2 babies, 6lb 13oz and 6lb 11oz.

I was 6lb 10oz, my sister 7lb 2oz

DH and his sister I understand were in the high 6's.

DSIL has nephew at 7lb 2oz.

So in our case it's all very similar.
