Hello..Im really a little bit worried. Did a Clear Blue test last week in the afternoon and got a Pregnant 3+ result. Did same test a few days later and same thing. Exactly the same result. Been winding myself up reading about Chemical Pregnancies...and horror stories...and false positives, so getting stressed out now. Does anyone have any views. Going doctors tomorrow and hopefully can be reassured there and then but just wanted to see what everyone thought? X

If it was only a few days you could have just entered 3 weeks when you first tested and have been nearing the end the second time

I may not have explained my question, sorry. Im just worried its a false positive or Chemical Pregnancy. Not really worried about how far etc...and dates so much. 3+ is the highest you can get on CB test x

If it's coming up at 3+ you're past the point where it could be a chemical pregnancy (you're at least 5 weeks pregnant).
Also, false positives are extremely rare, especially on digitals (no evap lines to worry about).

False positives don't really happen. They just don't on UK/EU quality tests. Get off google, it is terrifying!

If you have a positive test, you won't have a 'chemical' pregnancy (especially not at 3+ weeks). In order for HCG to be present in urine, the cells must have implanted for at least 24-48 hr. Thus, it isn't a chemical pregnancy (which is where the egg is fertilised but doesn't implant).

Sadly some - a minority of - women do lose babies in the early weeks and to be kind or cynically to avoid the NHS scans which cost their surgery money some GPs call these 'chemicals' when they are really early miscarriages.

As for 'horror stories' - do you mean ectopics and molars? Ectopics tend to have low HCG and by a '3+' on a digi test you'd be in considerable pain! Molars are very very rare indeed. They are so very rare (especially if you are of white or Afro-Caribbean origin - the odds are slightly higher for Asian origins but still at 1/1000 or thereabouts even in the high risk groups).

3+ is the highest a digi test goes: it means there's 300/500 (or more) HCG in your system. It looks very much like you are normally pregnant based on the test. If you've not had any bleeding, it's highly likely you're one of the majority of women who get pregnant, stay pregnant and have a baby after 9 months. :) Congratulations.

I was told there's no such thing as a false positive!
False negatives are common as i wee can be too diluted ( if u go mad drink.loads to can pee ) you can also no wee on the stick right or not enough or too much.
Positive is a positive. And doctors only do the same test as we have at home... Unless u insist on a blood test...

You can't get a false 3+ result on Clear Blue. Get a screwdriver out and take it apart - you'll see that there are two separate tests that have to come up positive to get a 3+ result. For all 4 (2 tests in 2 CBDs) to come up false positive is so unlikely as to be impossible.

My understanding of a chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage at or before 5 weeks - at this stage there is no embryo seen on an ultrasound so the only evidence of the pregnancy is through chemical analysis of blood or urine. I've had a chemical pregnancy and my HCG levels were very weak; it only showed on a very sensitive 10mu test despite ovulating 2.5 weeks previously so it should have been much higher. If we'd not been TTC and obsessively monitoring cycles after a previous miscarriage I doubt I would have even noticed I was pregnant as I would have dismissed it as a slightly late and heavy period. If you were having a chemical pregnancy it would be over by now.

I understand how worrying and scary it is but getting a 3+ shows your HCG levels are pretty high, if you have no bleeding or pain then there's no reason to suspect miscarriage or ectopic either. (Some stretchy cramps are normal, but it should be like the 'pain' you get in the back of your legs when you touch your toes, not agonising)

Thanks Eastwiththem, just wanted to update...went doctors today who said they will do a urine sample (well two or three of them inc diabetes and general), gave me Folic Acid prescription and said to go back tomorrow to see Midwife and someone will call me about the ecography shortly. Seems to all be going very quickly so far
