Is it possible not to put on enough weight?

So last night I braved the dreaded scales and it turned out I needn't have been worried. I'm 35 1/2 wks pg and I've put on a grand total of 12lbs. I know I should be pleased, less to lose and all that, BUT - I then went and read this article that said I should put on 25-30 lbs to be healthy and that 15lbs was verging on the 'not enough' for people who were overweight to begin with. Going from the current pattern I'm sure I'll put a few more lbs on before popping which will help me over the 15 line.

So is this quite common or should I mention it to my midwife? ie am I having one of those over anxious pg moments and need a dose of common sense (if yes please provide me with on, my jelly pg brain can't do it right now!)

Thanks

thanks kama, that's reassuring. I put on 2 stone and a bit with DS so it's just it a LOT less this time. The weird thing is I haven't changed what I eat at all, basically I just eat what I want (did have a craving for black ready to roll icing earlier on though ). DS was 8lb 11oz though and this baby feels just as big but I guess there's no way of knowing until he arrives.

liquidclocks,
glad to see this question, I'm 33+4 weeks, and have only put on 4lbs in the last couple of weeks,(lost some weight due to sickness) MW was questioning size of bump a few weeks ago, but GP and consultant don't seem at all concerned.

I wouldnt worry! I lost 3 stone when i was pregnant with DD and she was born at 7lb 4 oz and i ate like a horse! Weight just dropped off me, infact by the time i was 9 months pregnant i was lighter than i had been for 3 years!!! Am now 2 stone heavier than when i was 9 months pregnant!!!

Glad it's not just me! Though if I'd lost 3 stone I'd be quite worried, you must have been so tired bonkerz!

With all 3 of my pgs I've lost 7-12lbs at the beginning then barely gained anything until the 3rd trimester. I think my highest weight gain has been 18lbs. I asked my mw and she said it didn't matter as long as I was eating healthily. Look on it as a good thing - I've been back to less than my pre-pg weight within 3 weeks every time (although unfortunately it's gone up again due to post-birth/ bf munchies!!). I'm 23 wks at the mo and I've put on 4lbs, so I'm still 4lbs lighter than when I started. Be happy about it!!

Oh, meant to say ds was 8lbs 8oz and dd was 8lbs 4 oz so there was a lot of baby there both times too.

After knowing it's notjust me I'm just going to be happy - have a bridesmaid dress to fit into next summer so quite pleased!
