Ricotta? In a pasta?

I have got spinach and ricotta tortelloni pasta for my tea. The packet states that it contains pasteurised egg pasta but does not say whether the ricotta is pasteurised. I have just phoned up waitrose customer services but the bloke on the other end of the phone had the same information as what was on the packet anyway. Is ricotta usually pasteurised? And as I'll be chucking it in a pan of boiling water and then simmering gently for a few minutes that means it's ok anyway doesn't it? I find eating when pregnant very stressful!

if it's cooked it's ok. same with ricotta on pizza

you can eat baked Camambert as well - the heat destroys the... whatever it is that it destroys. I can't think

Making ricotta requires it to be heated to high temperatures. Plus it's not a kind of cheese that is produced by leaving it to mature like brie, camembert etc. It's more similar to yogurt than cheese really.

If I'm being totally truthful, I didn't check. I know I know, however it needs to be boiled in water so assumed that took care of the nasties.
I'm a bit meh about it really.

Mrsmini is right ricotta is made using pasteurised milk then it is heated again to a even higher temperature so I think you will be ok Grin

Ricotta cheese is fine. It is mould ripened soft cheese like brie that isn't, the sort that has the white crust, regardless of if it was made from pasteurised milk or not.
