Midwives

Just wanted to moan about a midwife I came in to contact with on the free NHS antenatal course. She sl@gged off my choice in where I want to give birth which I found totally unprofessional. She also asked me where I live and made some comment about how remote and cut off it is (it isnt at all!). I wanted to complain about her but fear she may be helping me deliver on d-day so thought i better not! She was also keen to promote anything to do with labour that she had done herself which all felt a bit bias. Has anyone else had bad experiences with midwives?

wow that's not great at all! If she has upset you then I would say something to either the course leader or her supervisor. If she has made you feel uncomfortable then can you request for her not to be there for the birth?

Every team has a 'supervisor of midwives' for exactly these concerns. They will deal with concerns discretely and can help if you would prefer another MW come the day... if you google your local NHS trust + 'supervisor of midwives' there will be a phone/email.

It's really hit and miss where I am. Some are lovely and supportive others come across as really judgmental and generally seem like they couldn't care less.

I tried to discuss birthing options on booking in but received an almost 'my way or the highway' type response. This put me off the free antenatal courses offered. I did an NCT course first time round and simply haven't bothered this time.....

sorry it's been a bit of a disappointment for you, it's worth complaining though and definitely specify if you'd rather not have that midwife for delivery. I have and was told that they would try and accommodate me if possible and that my request was being dealt with discreetly so not to worry if it wasn't possible.
