Anyone know about sweeps and bishops scores?

I had a sweep this morning at 38 weeks exactly. The midwife seemed really positive it would work, but has booked me in for another sweep on Tuesday just incase. (Being induced on Friday - really want to go naturally though)

When I looked at my notes there is a breakdown of my bishops score, with an overall rating of 4. When I googled it, it doesn't look likely labour is going to happen. Is this right? I was having strong contractions for a couple of hours after, even considered putting on my tens machine but it all seems to have died off.

Am I getting my hopes up for no reason? Is this a no hope or is there still a chance baby will arrive this weekend?

Hi Cbeebies - how do you feel now? Afraid I have no real knowledge to impart so am of no great help. Just hoping to make you feel better by comraderie Grin as I'm in a similar position - 38wks tomorrow and have appointment to be assessed Wed - hoping to pop before they insist on inducing me.

Mind you, hospital did say if they assess and decide the sweep will be of no help they will not do it, and they also said some people need a second so don't worry yet.

Good luck Wink

Don't pay attention to the score, I got a score of 3 at 40 weeks and got myself in such a state thinking the worst! I read that there was no chance of going into labour naturally.....I did, I might have been 10 days late lol but I didn't need induced. At my sweep the midwife couldn't even give me one as I wasn't open enough.

I was open enough, I was 1-2cm dilated, I think it's the effacement score that bought it down.

I had a show this morning (without blood, but definitely my plug!) an have been having pains all day. They keep easing off though :( am bouncing like a mad woman hoping to get it going.

Feeling more positive things will get going today/tomorrow though :) (being induced as at 35 weeks baby was measuring 41 on the scan and have a previous undetected VERY large baby)
