What do they do for recurrent missed miscarriage?

My friend is almost 40 and has just had two missed miscarriages.
1st - mc'd at 8 weeks - just a yolk sac
2nd - found at 13 week scan - just a yolk sac.
Her GP won't investigate until she's had 3 miscarriages but we'd be really grateful if anyone can shed any light on what sort of tests etc they can do and if anyone has had experience of this.

Thanks loads

I think one of the best things your friend could do is buy a book by Professor Lesley Regan called "Miscarriage, what every woman should know". It's a comprehensive guide to the subject. It goes into lots of detail about the different causes of miscarriage and also talks about the kind of tests available. She also gives very encouraging statistics about future pregnancies after miscarriage. Can't remember exactly what they were, but it's something like after 2 miscarriages you have approximately a 75% chance of success in your next pregnancy, and even after 3 miscarriages in a row, your chances of a "take home baby" (as she calls it) are over 50%. I found it enormously helpful when I found myself in the same situation as your friend. The information also helped to calm down my completely frazzled nerves when I got pregnant again.

Best of luck for your friend in getting some help.

you may also want to post this on the mc/berevement thread...

BTW I had x2 mc and nothing was done..I was told I had to wait until the 3rd. Thankgod my 3 rd pregnancy resulted in my gorgeous daughter.

I think they say 3 as most people concieve by the 3rd attempt iykwim. Sad I know..may help to go private..? That was our next plan until we found about dd.
BTW at the 2nd mc I was advised it may be I am mc due to me not being able to carry boys as apparently your hormone levels need to be higher..?? Not sure how true. I'm pregnant again so we will see.

Also don't let your friends hang her hopes on getting results from any tests. My friend has mc around 7 times..tests have come back fine. No reason why...
