I know how you feel Val. I found out I had lost my last baby at my 9+5 scan. With this baby I turned 9+5 over Xmas. I had a scan at 8+5 before Christmas, then about 10+5, but Xmas was so nerve wracking wondering what was happening.

Thank god I had my son and family around to distract me for a few days.

Keep positive...

resipsa · 26/05/2014 21:11

Val ThanksThanksThanks (in place of Wine, obvs).

eurochick · 26/05/2014 22:17

The first tri is really tough full stop, and the landmarks from previous mcs make it really harder. All I can recommend is keeping as busy as possible, so you don't have too much thinking time. Thinking can be bad.

vallinnapod · 27/05/2014 10:55

Thanks ladies. It's actually been OK getting to this point, well in that I thought time would drag and it hasn't really. The mentalling has been something else Confused

I just wish I 'knew'. I toy with a scan but if it were all OK it would only give me a few hours of respite. The one at 9.5 is def the best timing - I then have my first Harmony one at 10+4 (if all is still OK).

Of course I don't feel sick today and my boobs aren't sore...

It's DH's birthday. DS is in nursery so I am tying not to spoil the day by being a psycho....Smile

eurochick · 27/05/2014 11:14

You're doing really well. Before my Harmony test at 10+4, I had already had 3 scans! (One as standard at 6+1 at my clinic and then two at 7 and 8 weeks at the EPU due to bleeding.) You are right that each scan only gives a small amount of comfort though.

Symptoms do come and go. Try to enjoy your day with non-hurty boobs!

vallinnapod · 27/05/2014 11:39

Grin Thanks Euro, by Harmony I will have had 3 too Wink (sneaky peak at 6+4, official early scan at 7+4 and then next week at 9+5) Tempted by a 4th but the cost to reassurance ratio for one now is not great! Any one got any tranquillisers I can knock myself out with for 8 days?!

BeetlingAbout · 27/05/2014 12:40

Only 8 days, vall? I'd like a few months worth at least! [Smile]

What's the Harmony test? I've heard it mentioned before but not sure if it's something only available privately.

Ferreroroche123 · 27/05/2014 13:41

Hi all, been menkulling all weekend.

My son caught scarlet fever...had a bad fever Friday and Saturday which I thought could be flu, but on sounds the rash appeared and scarlet fever was confirmed.

At 31 weeks pregnant, I was a tad freaked out about catching it so phoned the maternity ward (private) and midwife answered in 1 ring (glad I went private now) and was very helpful and took advice from the microbiologist and phoned me back.

Anyway, upshot was, I moved to my parents for 24 hours while my husband gave my son his penicillin to make him non contagious. I am on high alert for sore throat or temperature and if I get them I have to straight on antibiotics for 2 weeks.

Also having to observe strict hygiene rules to prevent any of the bacteria getting to baby.

If I go into labour and have any symptoms the hospital will isolate me!

So bloody great weekend here, but back home today and my son is feeling much better. Still feeling slightly OCD and anxious about it all, but hoping that it will be sorted before my little man arrives.

nobeer · 27/05/2014 14:08

Oh no ferrero! You poor thing, and your poor little boy too of course. I think it's quite normal to feel OCDy, but try to feel reassured that you called the right people as soon as you could, and you know what to look out for. Take care and I've got my fingers crossed for you.

time2deal · 27/05/2014 16:01

nobeer - Harmony is a test for Downs.

It's a blood test and they separate the baby's DNA from your blood and look at the chromosomes. They test for three 'trisomonies', but Down's is the most common (while still being uncommon). It's more reliable than nucal testing, but is generally only offered privately, or in some cases if you come up as high risk after the nuchal and blood tests are done the NHS may offer it.

Plus as they can see the chromosomes you can tell the sex of the baby really early with 100% confidence.

The blood is sent to America. It's the only place that can do the test, so it takes a couple of weeks to get a result. It can be done from 10 weeks, so I did it as I needed to know by 12 weeks for sure if we were going ahead with the pregnancy. However to be honest we hadn't really thought through the implications of a negative result - we just did it as we were advised to. Thankfully we never had to cross that bridge..

nobeer · 27/05/2014 16:04

thanks time.

eurochick · 27/05/2014 18:23

nobeer there are trials of Harmony going on in a couple of the big teaching hospitals here, but at the moment it is only available privately. It tests for Down's Edward's and Patau's syndromes. We had it because I was really struggling to believe that after all our bad luck, this might work out, so I needed to be able to rule out as many problems as I could.

Ferrero what a pain! I hope he is better soon and that you have missed it.

vallinnapod · 27/05/2014 20:59

I am having the Harmony test as if I came back as anything other than a 1 in 10,000 chance from the Combined test I think I would drive myself mad. As Euro has said, with all the 'luck' so far it's hard to look on the bright side.

nobeer · 27/05/2014 22:12

Ok, right now I'm a bit clearer. I'm having the combined test, I had the bloods taken yesterday and we've got the 12 week scan next week. We also had our embryos tested for chromosonal abnormalities so in theory I guess (and desperately hope) that the one we've got on board is ok.

vallinnapod · 28/05/2014 02:15

Yep, nobeer if I had had PGD I wouldn't bother with anything else! That's a fab peace of mind.

As you can tell I am awake at stupid o'clock. DS fell out of bed and now I can't get back to sleep!

Bearsandhoney · 28/05/2014 07:05

Hi no beer, I too had the PGS testing which should rule out the risk of defects but have been advised to have the other tests to be on the safe side. It does give me a peace of mind though for which I am grateful. Doesn't of course mean that there could be something else wrong! I have my 12 week scan this afternoon and meet the consultant.

Sorry I haven't been around, life seems to have been busy and I have struggled to keep up. Wishing you all well though! Will try to be better buddy... Smile Xx

moggle · 28/05/2014 09:47

Hello, good to hear many of us are starting to get near milestones, but res I'm so very very sorry to read your news.

I am 15 weeks now and my flabby belly is starting to metamorphose into a bump. Oddly it was a holiday in Portugal wot did it- ate home cooked meals every day and the weather was terrible so hardly any ice cream! The rain gave me plenty of time to knit on holiday and baby now has a very nice old man style cardigan to keep warm when they come out.

I hope some of you get the reassurance from your 12 week scans / combined test that I did - most of my worries and anxiety just disappeared at that point! However I know I had an easier road than most on here with no MCs and not even a bit of spotting so no past experiences to worry about. Good luck with this afternoon bears

vallinnapod · 28/05/2014 09:51

Good luck this arvo Bears!

Tired, crampy (although think it is bowels Hmm), and fed up here but I think it has as much to do with the weather as pregnancy anxiety Grin

vallinnapod · 28/05/2014 13:45

Gave in and have just been for a scan. All looking good Grin

Ferrero I am sorry I missed your post over the weekend. My son got chicken pox the day before one of my (many) ETs. They are little carrier monkeys! I have everything crossed you remain in good health Smile

Badhairday76 · 28/05/2014 13:53

Hi ladies. Bears - hope your 12 week scan goes well today and that yours does too, next week Nobeer.

Ferrero - hope you and your DS are feeling better now.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and all was fine. Another baby boy! I feel like a huge weight has dropped off my shoulders. V relieved. Am hoping the next 20 weeks will be a lot less stressful than the last 20 weeks!

Hatteras · 28/05/2014 14:13

Hello everyone, just catching up on the last week or so of the thread. Was reading/lurking for a while before that, nothing to add, I felt like I was just passing the weeks by before the 20 week scan.

Res so incredibly sorry to read about what you have been through. I have no new words to add to what everyone has already said, but I am thinking of you, it is all just so hard and unfair sometimes. Thanks

I had my 20 scan this week (am actually 21 weeks) - all went really well and it was amazing to see little Hat wriggling around the screen and everything looking good. Also a huge relief! Much menkulling going on in the run up to the scan, but that is just par for the course it seems. Gradually feeling more relaxed about everything as time goes on.

So many ups and downs on this journey. It is uplifting to hear about all the positive scans and progress being made by the egg buddy grads. I used to find success stories very encouraging pre/during IVF and hope these do the same for those going through IVF.

Ferreroroche123 · 28/05/2014 15:10

Oh bless you val, how far are you today?

Has it given you the reassurance you wanted?

eurochick · 28/05/2014 15:12

That's great news val and hatty!

nobeer and bears PDG should provide a lot of comfort!

I'm 26+6 today and officially at the end of the second tri. I am amazed - I really never thought I would reach this point.

Res of you are still reading, I am thinking of you.

eurochick · 28/05/2014 15:12

And bad hurrah for a good scan for you too!
