Hi Bugs. Long time, no see! How're you?

Beetle - I agree. You must be classed as higher risk so why no extra care? I hear good things about C+W anyway so get over there.

BeetlingAbout · 22/05/2014 17:00

Ferrero, I had the stitch at C&W as there is a very good specialist there (who also did Times stitch - hope all is well time). I was hoping to continue my care at my local hospital as it's just a short bus ride away, whereas C&W is about 40 mins on public transport and goodness knows how long by car in traffic!

Hopefully it will be alright in the end...just got to tackle the admin of changing now Confused

Brew for Res, and a cadburys caramel egg (this is exactly what i'm eating and drinking too!)

Ferreroroche123 · 22/05/2014 17:13

So was it your local hospital that refused any extra monitoring? I generally hear good things about C&W.

I've transferred to private care under Queen Charlottes as I just had had enough of my local nhs maternity dept, but am now wondering whether I am supposed to contact the nhs hospital to inform them I am moving or whether a Queen Charlottes will do it.

The only reason I am hoping the latter is because I cannot ever get my local antenatal dept to answer the phone. I tried for 4 days last week just to get blood results and ended up phoning triage because they are the only ones who answer the phone!

vallinnapod · 22/05/2014 17:37

Beetle - was it Kingston?? I really can't decide where to have my antenatal care. I just haven't heard anything good about it :( So tempted to go private but it is sooooo expensive. And that's before you attempt to calculate any complications. Also I would be really worried about getting to somewhere in time - DS was super quick.

time2deal · 22/05/2014 18:43

Great news *res". This is all so stressful! Hope things calm down and it's so reassuring to see a heartbeat.

I'm reading everyday but not posting much, even stalking a bit in the IVF thread. Alls well with me, just going along getting so FAT! I don't think there is a clear bump to other people so I just seem to be expanding at an alarming rate.

beetling glad the operation went well. I 'know' someone else from a TAC support group who transferred her care to c&w as the local hospital were being arsey about her follow up. The admin of all this stuff does drive me crazy too.

By the way there is a good TAC support group on Facebook. I know you didn't have the tac but lots of ladies who went to Nick Wales so might be of interest to you. Lots of ladies stressing about cervical length in pregnancy if you want somewhere to chat.

Ferrer if you are moving to queen Charlotte to get someone to answer the phone, then don't move!! They are shocking. One time I was on hold for an hour and was 'next in line'. Found out later the ante natal clinic had closed for the night, but they just leave you on hold!! Anyway, apart from that I guess you just budget for 10-15 wait each time. It's much easier if you book everything when you are there.

I'm at QC as you can tell, and the care gets highly rated, especially for premature babies so I'm putting up with the annoyances. beetle FYI they scan my cervix every three weeks at the moment. Possibly more later on, but at the moment it looks stable. I've had lots of strong stretchy almost crampy pains this week, so I'm curious to see if the cervix has changed and maybe the TAC is taking over.

20 week anomoly scan tomorrow. Can't believe we are half way there. And only 4 weeks to viability.

Ferreroroche123 · 22/05/2014 18:57

time, I'm moving to Queen Charlottes for private antenatal and delivery by Mr McCarthy, so any queries I phone straight through to Sir Stanley Clayton Ward.

I have heard that the nhs side is having a mare with their admin system and receptionists very grumpy.

Can't afford to go private for whole pregnancy so have been putting up with my local hospital until now at 30 weeks where it is getting to crunch time to get in with McCarthy.

resipsa · 22/05/2014 21:01

Hi Time. Long time (no pun etc) no speak. You're nearly there!

time2deal · 22/05/2014 21:36

Thanks res. Lovely to see you here. :). I don't feel that close!! In truth it still doesn't seem real, especially the idea that will have another human to look after in a few months (touch wood).

Will be nice to get a look tomorrow. Hopefully get some nice pictures.

Ferreroroche123 · 23/05/2014 12:02

time, let us know how your scan goes

BeetlingAbout · 23/05/2014 12:24

Vall, it was Kingston, but don't let me alarm you. I'm a dysfunctional pregnant person and my experience is probably very different to someone with a 'normal' pregnancy. They just aren't very good for my particular problem, you might find them excellent. If you don't get on very well you can always change later on...there is plenty of time Smile

Ferrero I expect it will be a breeze for you from here on in private care.

Time, i am glad to hear that all is going well. I think i might be having a growth spurt too as have been feeling crampy the last few days. Thank you for the advice on the FB group. I am part of an IVF after pProm group where many of the women have TAC's too. But i do find that it scares me more than reassures me sometimes...especially having 'only' a TVC!

I hope the 20 week scan goes without a hitch today.

Res, how are you feeling today?

OP posts:
eurochick · 23/05/2014 12:33

beetling that sounds unbelievable. I hope you get better care at C&W. BTW, my dr friend has worked there in the past and had her first baby there and is planning to do the same for the one she is cooking now, so that it some endorsement.

time it sounds like you are doing really well. You start hitting comforting markers at this point - halfway, then 24 weeks, then 3rd tri, then 28 weeks and so on.

FR how long ago did you book for a private delivery? If my placenta issue hasn't resolved itself by the scan at 28 weeks, I will probably need to be consultant-led and would like to consider private care but I thought it would be too late.

res how are you doing today?

I'm 26 weeks now. I can't believe I have been pregnant for half a year!

Ferreroroche123 · 23/05/2014 13:08

euro, I only booked in last week at 29 weeks and had no problems.

I think it depends where you go and which consultant you want.

Some of the consultants (particularly at the Portland) seem ridiculously booked up, but some others seem to have plenty of availability.

I heard that Lindo Wing at St Mary's and Portland get booked up, but Queen Charlottes was ok.. Very relaxed, they said any time before 35 weeks I think and Mr McCarthy was free.

eurochick · 23/05/2014 14:09

That's really helpful. Thanks Ferrero!

time2deal · 23/05/2014 16:30

Ferrero looking at the Portland worries me, as the NICU, if needed, can get very expensive. Benefit of the NHS hospitals is that the baby is immediately covered by NHS so any NICU etc costs are covered. Plus NHS intensive care for babies is better than private I think.

You are all making me worry I should go private though!! I am looking at a private C-Section as my insurance covers is, but there are a few worrying exceptions, the main one being if I go into labour before the planned C-Section date then I become an NHS patient again, and private won't pay even for a private room. Sigh.. too hard to think about.

Beetling I know what you mean about the groups being very TAC obsessed. Someone said recently they were leaving the group as everyone made them worry so much that they 'only' had a TVC. But, in truth it's just because most of the women have more complex and depressing problems so needed a TAC, but there are thousands of TVC's that worked perfectly well, you just don't hear so much about them.

Anyway - todays scan went perfectly! Baby looking lovely - it was in the wrong position so they couldn't check everything but all they could see looked fine. So... I guess not perfectly... but good enough for me to see a happy baby bouncing around in there. And another scan next week. :)

They couldn't see the heart, however at FMC I think they did a really good check of the heart at 12 weeks. Showed all the ventricles pumping and blue and red blood in the right places so I'm hopeful that will still all be ok. Lovely picture that will go on the fridge tonight.

Euro good point that there a lots of nice reassuring milestones coming up soon enough. I think at 28 weeks I will feel more confident, and I'm going on Mat leave around 30 weeks so that will be when I can really slow down and make sure the baby holds tight as long as possible.

wow - this became very long! Hope everyone is well.

resipsa · 23/05/2014 17:24

Hey guys. Sorry - this one is going to be me, me, me.

Went to bed relieved last night as bleeding had ceased. None overnight despite two toilet trips.

However, about 9.30, felt a literal gush and have been bleeding bright red since, passing huge (palm sized) clots. I really think it's over now.

Am numb. To see the heart then lose it within 12 hours is the worst thing I've been through in this TTC journey.

Local EPU particularly unhelpful and said no scan if active bleeding so I have to wait until tomorrow - they open a telephone line at 7am for 30 whole minutes. Am going to have to use my rhesus neg status to get seen, I think. Need Anti D within 72 hours.

I do not know what to do with myself. Poor DD is bewildered. Got a 1yr old's party tomorrow.

nobeer · 23/05/2014 17:56

Oh shit res. You poor thing. I think first things first, cancel going to the b'day party. Can you get a friend or relative around to play with/distract DD? Holding your hand, love.

BeetlingAbout · 23/05/2014 18:02

Res, can you go to A&E? That's where i went after my gush and they called up to the acute gynae unit who agreed to scan me. Is there another hospital that might be more sympathetic considering the circumstances?

I am so sorry you are going through this torture and uncertainty. It's not fair. xxx

OP posts:
vallinnapod · 23/05/2014 18:12

Res I am so, so sorry you are going through this. I was there was something I could do other than a virtual hand hold.

resipsa · 23/05/2014 18:29

Thanks for your thoughts.

DH not home + no one I want to tell around to look after DD who'd be frightened anyway if I disappeared.

I can wait until tomorrow. At least DH can deal with DD then.

I wish so much that I'd never gone down this route now. It's changed me for the worse forever.

nobeer · 23/05/2014 18:38

I'm so sorry I'm not nearer. How old id DD, I can't remember?

nobeer · 23/05/2014 18:39

Can you cuddle up on sofa and watch a DVD together?

Ferreroroche123 · 23/05/2014 18:43

Res, please hold tight.

What you are experiencing sounds just like an sch bleeding.

I'm not saying it couldn't possibly be something else, BUT when sch's bleed they gush like a tap being turned on.

Have you had any painful cramps?

As you day, if you saw a normal developing baby yesterday it would be very strange to suddenly miscarry it (although I don't want to say that couldn't happen).

When I had my middle oft he night hemorrhage I woke up soaked in blood thinking I had peed myself. I stood up and it was running down my legs. I went straight to A&E and they took bloods which showed high HCG and sent me up to EAU to be observed in case I needed a blood transfusion.

The doc told me I must be miscarrying, but next day they sent me down for scan and bubs was literally waving at me. Next to it was the sch (a pool of blood between the sac and uterine wall).

Please do go in if you can and get seen and scanned.... It seems illogical that you can bleed and loose clots yet baby be ok, but it is possible.

Ferreroroche123 · 23/05/2014 18:53

time I avoided the Portland for that exact reason. There was a real high chance earlier on that my baby could be premature and I did not want him in The Portland as I couldn't afford the NICU. I wanted an NHS hospital with all the back up of excellent NICU facilities but with a private wing for the delivery. I considered St Mary's Lindo Wing, Queen Charlottes Stanley Clayton Wing, Guys and St Thomas's?? And C&W I think... But Queen Charlottes just nearer to me as I am in NW London and my ivf consultant recommended consultant who delivers there because he delivered both her kids.

Wish my insurance covered a private delivery... They don't cover any maternity stuff at all... Bit of a bummer that it doesn't apply if you go into labour before your c section though.
