Low amniotic fluid

does anyone have any experience of this. Following our scan today we have a consultant appt on Friday, not sure what to expect

I don't have experience of this nc060 but am just wondering what stage of pregnancy you are at? I think that will affect the situation. I am pretty much due and my fluid levels are being monitored because of gestational diabetes - I know that low levels now may indicate placental failure but am not sure about earlier in the pregnancy.

How far along are you?

I had twins in 2012 and throughout my pregnancy their amniotic fluid levels were fine, however, at a routine scan at 34 weeks they found twin1 had no fluid at all. This happened in 2 weeks as at my 32 week scan all was fine.

They delivered the babies the next day and both were fine apart from the twin with no amniotic fluid having an infection and needing antibiotics in the NICU.

I will be 22 weeks on Saturday so no hope if they need to deliver :(

Amniotic fluid can replenish itself, they will give you lots of advice so try not to worry. Drinking lots of water helps too.

I had this at 32 weeks. Repeat scam at 34 weeks and it was well within normal. It can fluctuate and as pp said, it can replenish itself. Same thing happened to a friend - I think it's quite common. Try not to worry.

I read a summary of a study that showed that keeping hydrated and drinking large amounts of water leading up to your next scan/test (ie. 2ltrs) can increase amniotic fluid.

Appointment was neither good nor bad, there has been no change since Tuesday. Baby is fine jsut now but is concerned about it being too low when Juniors lungs start to develop in about 10 weeks time so just going to keep monitoring it. I drink quite a lot anyway but have been making a big effort to drink more water/diluting juice and cut out all fizzy aswell. Feel relieved to have today over with and waiting for next scan next Thursday to see if any change. On the plus side I get to see baby more than most mummies(all be it not for good reasons)
