Bleeding,Trainee ultrasound tech and dates don't match :( help

I don't even know were to begin
I had a bleed roughly about 20 days go went to a&e was given an ultrasound & internal was told I was 5+4 and was told to come back 18 days later. Had my second scan done by a trainee who seemed to be having a great deal of trouble getting a clear view and also struggled to find my uterus. She then told me I was 6+4. I then told her that I don't think this is right. I was booked in for another 2 weeks. Late last night I had yet another bleed. Is this normal ? Or has anyone else had anything like this? I have had no info from the staff or hospital what so ever. I have prepared myself for good and bad news

Sorry you're going through this Pinkcookie88. I'd phone the EPU and speak to one of the midwives - they should be able to see you within a couple of days given that you have had another bleed. Do you have the direct contact number for them?

I have been in contact and explained what is going on. Unfortunately they are fully booked and are refusing to see me until my appointment. I am very tempted to go to a&e as the bleeding is still present. It's all very confusing as this is my first pregnancy

It's terrible that they're refusing to see you. The EPUs here are very good about seeing you with issues like this. Perhaps phone back tomorrow and try again? Persistence (with a few tears) might pay off.

If you are worried about the bleeding then absolutely go to A&E. If you don't mind me asking, how would you describe the bleeding? Is it spotting, proper bleeding, fresh blood etc?

I think so altho I was told the the clinic was closed for Easter which I also found strange. We'll after both internals I had heavy period like bleeding then it got lighter I would say a little heavier than spotting. The colour can range from brown,red, pink and orange

So sorry you are going through this, especially when the epu is closed. I do not think there is much point in attending a and e unless you have very heavy bleeding or pain that you cant manage with paracetamol. Honestly a&e cant really do anything.

unfortunately if i were you i would be prepared for the worst. It sounds like your baby has grown too slowly and you are likely to miscarry. This happened to me in my first pregnancy and was a heartbreaking experience. Early scans can of course be unreliable, but with an 18 day gap between your scans you would expect the baby to have grown significantly. Was a heartbeat ever detected?

If I'm really honest I know this myself and have been trying to prepare myself the best I can. My only bit of hope is that the scan was preformed by a trainee and she found it very difficult to get a clear picture compared with my earlier scan which was very clear: she said that she could not get a clear enough picture to detect a heartbeat. I'm so sorry for your loss it truely is an awful time

I agree with katandkits, unfortunately. It does sound like perhaps your baby hasn't developed and that you may be miscarrying. Of course there's always hope, but significant bleeds at this early stage usually point towards mc.

This happened to me - I had several scans with a previous pregnancy where the baby stopped developing at around 5 weeks gestation but they kept scanning me until 10 weeks.

Get in touch with them this week again and see if they can confirm anything for you. I sympathise completely - it's horrible not knowing and the waiting is agonising.
