baby heartrate - boy or girl?

Hi

i know this sounds a bit bizarre but i was told by someone that if the baby's heartrate is 140 or over it is a boy and if it is under 140 it is a girl. a friend and i tested this theory on a few friends who were pregnant and sure enough it was true.

Last time i was pregnant every time i went for my checkup with the midwife the baby was 140 or more and sure enough he was a boy. If you have had a baby before i'd love to know whether this was true for you!

dd 150+ every checkup
ds between 135 & 150

so no, didn't work for me!

biglips · 23/08/2006 15:30

mine was 130 throughtout my pg till towards the end and it was 150.....had a girl

lunavix · 23/08/2006 15:30

lol

That's not actually the old wives tale. It's meant to be over 140/150 for a girl, and around 120 - 140 for a boy.

Having said that, I can't remember for ds, but this one is definaetly in the boy range, and I've been told it's likely to be a girl.. so don't knwo!

PinkTulips · 23/08/2006 15:31

lol luna, was right for me then!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 23/08/2006 15:31

Jess was 140+

Becky 130+

bubbaloo · 23/08/2006 15:39

Ds's heartrate was approx 130 and never over 140

LeBe · 23/08/2006 16:29

My babies heartbeat was quick - over 140 and it is a boy so could be true but i was told if the heartbeat was quick it was a girl??

Mum2FunkyDude · 23/08/2006 16:31

The other way around!

Mine was always low, 125 sometimes down to 110...was a boy...and he is still laid back!

Elibean · 23/08/2006 16:50

I thought it was the other way around - high for a girl, low for a boy. And no, it didn't work for me - first time it seemed to (140-155, girl) but this time (below 130, also a girl) not.

divastrop · 23/08/2006 17:46

its meant to be high 4a girl, low for a boy and it was right every time with my 4

Emprexia · 23/08/2006 21:55

I'm carrying a boy and his Hr has been a consistant 144.

eidsvold · 23/08/2006 22:22

not true in my case dd2 was always high heart rate even so that the GP asked if I knew what the old wives tale was - but she was a dd not a ds.

LittleB · 24/08/2006 19:52

Meant to be low for a boy and high for a girl, as men have lower heart rates than women, and generally if you are bigger you have a lower heart rate and boys are usually bigger, so its not just an old wives tale, it has a bit of scientific background, but is often wrong, it was for me, dd was between 130-140!

I agree with happymumof2 the same here - my son was just like a train and both of my girls where like galloping horses - can't wait to hear what this one will be, but still got about 8 weeks before they pick anything up!!

LeBe · 25/08/2006 09:32

Happymumof2 - That is so true about the train, when i recorded the heartbeat on my phone to let my family and friends listen, everytime someone listened and i didnt tell them what it was they gave me a very confused look and asked why i had a recording of a train!
