Anyone found out their due date is much later than expected at an early scan??

Hi anyone!
I had an early scan today which dated my pregnancy at 5-6 weeks - my own calculation from my last period estimated 9 weeks yesterday. The scan results were a little bit worrying and as there was some doubt about the presence of a heartbeat I had to have a vaginal scan which showed a faint heartbeat and fetal pole. I suppose that's good news but the date mystery makes me think that perhaps the baby is experiencing growth problems and that all is not well. I have another scan booked for 2 weeks today so sure this is going to be a long 2 weeks but amid all the anxiety I will try to remain positive. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Any advice or good outcomes to pass on to make me feel a little better at this worrying time? Much appreciated...

Hi

on my last pregnancy i went for a scan at 11 weeks, and found out i was only 9 weeks. i was convinced they were wrong, but sure enough my baby came 3 days after my scan due date.

am 10 weeks now (i think!) so wont get scan for another 2 weeks, but hope this time round i've got the date right.

did you have regular cycles, what was the average length of your cycle?
When did you get your + test?

ComeOVeneer · 23/08/2006 15:22

Both times my due date was changed. With dd it was moved forward 2.5 weeks (she was then 10 days late)

piffle - who did you aim your questions at? was it me or babycakes26?

my periods were all over the place so it is no wonder i got it all wrong! i was going anywhere between 6-10 weeks between them.

Hi, yes me.

I was absolutley positive from the date of my last period etc that I was 10 weeks pregnant. The GP and I discussed and yes, it must be 10 weeks.
As I had a child with special needs in my first pregnancy they sent me straight for a scan in this my 2nd pregnancy.
The scan showed that i was either 5 weeks pregnant of the fetus had stopped growing.
I was devestated as I was sure I was 10 weeks and so feared the worst.
There was nothing to do but see if the fetus grew so had to go back 2 weeks later.
Horrible 2 weeks but when I went back ther was the heartbeat and a slightly larger fetus.
I now have a wonderful 8 month old daughter.
Good lucj hon', I know how worried I was so my heart goes out to you.
I'm sure you'll be just fine
TC xx

Hi Babycakes.

I was told that i was due on 17th October as calculated by my last period and other factors but when i went foran emergency scan at what i thougt was 9 weeks i was told i was barely 6 so my date changed to 30th October and then was told at my 12 weeks scan that i am due on 6th November!! I am now massive and everybody is certain my little man will be making an apperance before then. Also i know a few people who were told they were later than originally thought and they gave birth early, they all said they just knew so maybe its mothers instinct.

babycakes26 · 24/08/2006 15:06

Thx LeBe that makes me feel better xx

Hi babycakes, I just posted on the pregnancy after miscarriage thread but I'm not sure if you'll see it. I'm having a sort of similar experience to you at the moment. I went for an early scan last week when I thought I was 6+4 weeks by dates but I was told that only a gestational sac could be seen which was dated at around 5 weeks, in my case there was nothing in the sac. I'm going back next thursday to see if it's grown.

You must take comfort from the fact that a fetal pole and a hearbeat was found, especially the heartbeat. I just read somewhere that the chance of miscarriage after the heartbeat is found is around 10%. Also, because they saw the heartbeat suggests that it could be further on than 5-6 weeks, even a few days at this stage makes such a difference.
I had two previous m/c which were blighted ovum and when I was scanned then, it was 6-7 weeks with nothing in it.
I know it's really worrying (I can't think of anything else to the point of obsession!) but I really think you will be ok with this one. BTW do you know any sizes of the sac or fetal pole?

babycakes26 · 25/08/2006 20:17

2girls thanks for your lovely kind words - just gave me a little warm feeling inside and made me feel much better - hope everything looks better for you next week - I'll keep everything crossed xxx

Didn't get any info on size of fetal pole or sac but was told that they (and the yolk) were all normal size for the 5.5-6weeks date just not for 9 weeks
