HELP!!! MEASURING BIG AND WORRIED!

I've been to the midwife today and i'm very worried- i'm measuring 43 weeks and i'm only 36+2. Being sent to the consultant on the 4th as he only does clinics on the Monday and of course next Monday is bank holiday.

I'm soooo worried and don't know what to do?! Anyone else know or had this and what happened?!

Or mears if you're about i'm fretting.

I was very big last time, was told at 38 weeks that baby was estimated weight of over 11lb already...gulp!! I went on to 40 + 1 week and had a 9lb 4.5oz baby, and had been worrying myself into a frenzy about the birth needlessly (although 9lb+ still pretty eyewatering). Sorry I can't be much more help than that.

How's your urine been - has any sugar shown up? If so they'll want to test for gestational diabetes as that can make the baby grow 'too' large. But that wouldn't have to wait for the consultant.

OTOH, I've always had huge bumps, without GD, and my babies were just under and just over 9lb. The size of the bump isn't an accurate measurement of the baby's size. I have a fibroid outside the uterus, and, depending on its position, it can push the uterus upwards and affect its apparent measurement quite significantly. Though I don't think I've ever measured more than 2-3w ahead of my size.

Another alternative is that the measurement was simply wrong. I had one midwife measure me at about 33w and call out "44cm" to the senior mw who was writing it down. "I sincerely hope not" she replied, and came over to do the measurement herself: 34cm.

Can you go to your GP and ask to be seen by another consultant...it seems like a long time to have to wait at this atage.

My wee has been as clear as a whistle the whole time... i'm just really concerned about it all and don't want to be too pushy but in the same way can't handle worrying for two weeks.

If the mw was seriously worried, you wouldn't be waiting two weeks to see the consultant. Serious problems in pregnancy don't wait, but get dealt with immediately. You would be being scanned and monitored this week, and having various blood tests immediately.

But the mw must tick all the boxes. Despite having perfectly normal pregnancies and births, I will always be refered for consultant appointments becuase of my fibroid.

Fundal height measuring is not an exact science, I was measured as small, my mw reassured me that because I'm tall I probably measure differently, my baby was born 9lb4oz 10 days late! The mw would've send you to hospital for monitoring imediately if she felt something was wrong. I hope this makes you feel a little better.

the sonographer told me at at a 37 week scan that they are less accurate about bigger babies. Mine was over a 1lb more that they measured him, 2 days before the birth.

I measured HUGE in the later weeks of my pregnancy, just like you. MW's adamant I was going to have a whopper, I was sent for another scan at 36 weeks and was informed that the baby was, indeed in the 99th centile and was told that a homebirth was foolhardy with such an enormous baby on the way.

Four weeks late I give birth normally to my DD. She was 7 lbs 14 ounces, almost exactly on the 50th centile. Don't believe the hype, these measurements are not nearly as accurate as they'd have you believe!

I had a neat bump with my second pg, tiny compared to my first pg, and gave birth to a whopping 10 pound plus boy - the head midwife at the hospital thought he would be around 8 pounds! Could all be just water in there, I agree with Prettycandles, if the midwife was worried you would be in there now instead of two weeks time!
