I'm about 7 weeks pregnant and have had shingles in the last couple of weeks. Toddler now has chicken pox! Am I right in thinking I'm ok just to carry on as normal with him as I can't catch it? Confused

Check it out with your midwife, my toddler had it when I was 8 months pg, my MW said it can be a problem in the first trimester and at birth. Can't remember why though and my MW was crap so wouldn't believe her anyway! She sent me for blood tests to see if I'd had CP before and whether would be a problem for me.

If you've had shingles then you've had chicken pox. All that will be happening now is that you will be making more antibodies to the virus; these will be passed to your developing baby and he/she will have temporary passive immunity to chicken pox for a few months. No need to worry at all.

Thanks for your reply March. I don't yet have a midwife as am only 7 weeks. I have phoned the out of ours doc and am waiting for a call back.

I have had chicken pox before bad shingles in the last couple of weeks- I was told at this point that it was fine because I had antibodies so actually having shingles in pregnancy isn't an issue. The issue is if you're pregnant and catch chicken pox. I'm hoping I'm right in thinking I'm immune
