Placenta previa, when do they do CS?

I've just found out my low lying placenta hasn't moved up, and is borderline previa. I'll probably have to have a CS, does anyone know how many weeks they do it at? I'm planning to stay at work until 39 weeks (am 36 weeks now) but may have to stop a bit sooner!

I had mine at 38 weeks because I had irritable uterus and they were worried about spontaneous labour. If I had been fine it would have been planned for 39 weeks. They don't want you to start labour so they err on the side of caution and get you in at the first sign of something being up.

Thanks, I haven't had any bleeding or any other problems so hopefully they'll wait until 39 weeks then!

39 weeks for me last time. I'd really advise going off at least a week before then as there's quite a lot of appointments in the run-up - extra scans, pre-op checks and paperwork. I've got the same this time and am stopping three weeks before the likely 39 week delivery.

Hi, I have this. I'm 36 weeks and am having CS at 38 weeks. You'll need to stop work very soon. I've just done 2 days of steroid injections at hospital and you have to have 12 hours between injections so you have to be available. Do you know if you have to get injections? You need to stop work and start preparing now I think.

Btw I've had no bleeding or comps either but sometimes they'll still want you to do it at 38 weeks.

38+5 for mine.

I had a planned section at 38 weeks due to a previous traumatic birth (my own request) and during the c section they discovered my placenta had slipped and had effectively become severe placenta previa. It was all a bit scary as it was so unexpected but they dealt with it very well and despite losing some blood it all went to plan - I stayed in hospital 3 days the same as I would do otherwise. Recovery was ok and much better than my previous traumatic vaginal birth.

So if they can cope with my undiagnosed no symptom placenta previa at 38 weeks I think 38/39 weeks would still be the norm. Obviously my situation wasn't ideal!

I was told 38 weeks regardless of whether you had bleeding or not at my hospital. Mine was booked for 37+5 but ended up 3 days earlier due to a bleed.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm seeing my midwife this week so will see what she says. Looks like I might be finishing work sooner than planned though!
