Scans in West Yorkshire

Hi everyone

I have my 21 week scan next Friday and DP can't make it as he has a driving exam. He can't change the time of his exam and I can't change the appointment, there are no cancellations. I'm a bit upset about this as obviously we both want him to be there. I had a scan at 10 weeks and he wasn't at this one either because it was following some bleeding and all a bit quick. Does anyone know of anywhere in W Yorks where I can pay for another scan?

Not sure about west yorks...BUT when expecting dd we travelled from chorley lancs to leeds for a 3d/4d scan. (They do all scans BTW)
We used Leeds screening centre. They were brill. I am expecting again and aim to do the same BUT there are now more scan places on offer and I think we have an even closer one in manchester.

HTH

babyview

Or we used these leedsscreeningcentre

Daisypops · 23/08/2006 12:26

Thanks. I'm looking at Leeds Screening Centre site and theres so many different times of scana nd prices. Sounds daft but what is it that I want. Is it a fetal anomaly scan or a well being scan...? Sorry

You are best calling them and speaking to them. What you may want to do is wait until around 28 weeks like dh & I did so that you get a good chance of seeing baby in their full glory..!!

They advised me that around 28 weeks was a good time as baby was a good size etc. It also something to look forward to and allows you to see baby again 8 weeks later.

BTW we had the 3&4d scan which was pixs and a dvd format which was brill. The cost was around £190 which was a bargain imo..!!

You aren't going for medical reasons, just to get and update etc. BTW keep the appoinment next week as it will allow them to do the relvant checks (these are also done at the 3d/4d scan)

Need any more help..??? HTH. xx

Daisypops · 23/08/2006 13:19

Thanks Shhhh. Its a good idea to wait til 28 weeks. TBH I'm still a bit miffed that NHS won't be a little more flexible.

No probs. Its a shame your dh couldn't see baby at the 20 weeks scan BUT at least he has a 28 weeks scan to look forward to..!! DH & I were so excited in the run up to our 3d/4d scan for dd and he's the same now lol..!! Keeps asking how long till we can go for it.!

Yes I agree the nhs is not the best in being flexable but sadly thats what you get, we have found private scans (had them at 6&8&28 weeks) were where we were given brill service and sadly because you are "paying" for it you tend to get that little bit extra in terms of time, explanations and discussions. Its not a rushed job iykwim.
But I do feel sorry for nhs staff esp maternity staff. Our local hospital is so under staffed its shocking. On Monday at an antenatal appointment I was advised there were only 3 mw available..and this is a main nhs hospital..

BTW I would book asap for the scan.I was advised to call around 20 weeks as they do get booked up quite quickly. Whats also brill is appointments are on saturdays..! Hooray..!!

Let me know how you get on. xx

geordiemacminx · 23/08/2006 14:53

If you were going to have a private scan how soon would you recommend? I see you had one at 6 weeks and one at 8? I'm only 4/5 weeks but after a m/c at 7 weeks I am desperate to know everything is ok

shhhh · 23/08/2006 15:29

Well with dd it was 6 weeks and now with dc2 we went privatly at 9 weeks. TBH it was as you said "to reassure us". After 2 mc's dh & I wanted to be certain all was ok at that stage.

You can't see much at 6 weeks but with both of ours we could see "baby" and a heartbeat. Obviously this was v reasurring. Luckily with dd our consultant also saw us on the nhs so arranged for me to be scanned at 10,12,14,16,18,21 weeks..just to show us all was going well.

We are still concerned about dc2 now as you would be following a mc but we have had scans at 9,12 and then 20 weeks (in 3 weeks time).

Ideally if you wanted reasurrance I would go privatly around 6-8 so there is time between this scan and the 12 week one. They usually won't see you before 6 weeks anyway. Although they can test your hcg (?) levels with a blood test. We had this with dd and were please to see that over 2 days not only had my levels doubled but had trebled..A sign all is going well....

I had a 3d/4d scan at Leeds Screening Centre. It was brilliant, would definitely recommend it. It was £190 but well worth it and they do explain things to you in more detail than the NHS. Plus you get a DVD and lots of pictures. Where are you having your baby? I live in Bradford but had my dd at LGI and this one will also be born at LGI.

shhhh · 24/08/2006 15:45

better surroundings than the nhs as well ..!!!

Daisypops · 28/08/2006 20:57

Discmonkfish-I live in Bradford too. I was offered LGI but BRI was easier for me to get to from work for scans etc. Just gonna go for my scan on Friday with my mum, had a chat with dh and he said he'll go to next one and didn't approve of me spending £190 on another scan at LSC

Discomonkfish · 05/09/2006 20:39

I know it's really expensive I don't know why the NHS don't buy a machine and charge a cheaper rate they'd probably make a packet.....

NotAnOtter · 05/09/2006 20:41

lass is great - the bloke is top consultant at lgi 'ask for gerald' he is my hero!

Daisypops · 05/09/2006 21:33

I went to my scan with my mum. Everything looks ok. DP did his exam and flippin failed so he missed the scan AND failed his exam hes now passed! For my mum, coming to the scan & seeing bub was a nice little 'gift' as shes been a great help since I got pregnant. Do NHS do another scan at around 30 weeks or is that it now?

OP posts:
shhhh · 06/09/2006 14:52

Glad all went will dp. Also glad your dp finally passed his driving test..!!

There will be no more cans on the NHS now unless you need one due to problems or concerns.

I know it seems a high price for a private scan BUT in the case of the 3d/4d ones they are so much bettre than the one on the nhs as you see so much more of baby and the image you get is amazing. Try and work on your dp ..!!!

Do you find out the sex ..???

shhhh · 06/09/2006 15:02

typing to quick..sorry!! Meant to say no more scans..! Also meant to say "did" you find out the sex..silly me.!! .

Daisypops · 06/09/2006 16:03

Hi Shhhh, It was DP driving exam for work (hes a policeman) he trained for 4 weeks and did fine then failed in an hours exam?
I will work on DP as I don't think I can wait 18 weeks to see bub again! We do know what we're having but we're keeping it a secret. We want to suprise everyone. Do you know what your having?

OP posts:
shhhh · 06/09/2006 16:36

ah right, sorry missed the fact it was an exam. Great achievement though for him...

We want to know the sex but won't find out till our 20 weeks scan next wed....! I want to also keep it a secret BUT dh thinks different and wants to tell everyone. Typical.!
We found out with dd and managed to keep it from everyone but my parents (they wanted a secret). Now that was hard..!! I remember dropping myself in it with my mum and bursting into tears about the fact I had spoiled everything (hormones ). Bless she led me upstairs and showed me items she had been buying..LOL they were all of the oink variety..! Think she has guessed it a long while back..! But we still managed to keep it from my pops...He was completely oblivious..!

Go on..I won't tell anyone .

YellowFeathers · 06/09/2006 16:41

Daisypops, I had one done in Doncaster for £40 at a private clinic.
We lived in Wakefield at the time but we went to find out the sex of the baby.

The only problem is, I can't remember the name of the place but I'll do a search and see if I camn find it.

Daisypops · 06/09/2006 18:02

Shhh-I'm not telling! I've done really well so far, only me, mum and DP know. \Heeehheee!
Thanks yellowfeathers, I will 'google' the place in Doncaster and see what DP thinks!

OP posts:
shhhh · 06/09/2006 21:37

Good luck anyway.! Suppose I just have around 20 weeks wait till both our arrivals arrive..!

YellowFeathers · 07/09/2006 18:41
