Shower/baby/bath...

Tentatively OH and I will be moving to a new house shortly, long story, but anyway, said house doesn't have a bath, only a shower.

Bathroom isn't big enough for a bath to be fitted and I know when tiny we can buy a baby bath (or the kitchen sink ;-)) but how much of an issue is not having a bath going to be?

OH is a plumber so to be honest we could probably add on but as the house only has one bathroom I really don't fancy having to rip the current one out, not to mention that he only installed it last year!

Does anyone else survive without a bath?

Bathe the baby in a builders rubble basket until it is old enough for a shower. Showering pre-schoolers is the norm in plenty of countries!

Tubtrug? We have a huge supply of those with the plumbing business and my horse! :D (ok, might invest in a clean one!)

Don't bother buying a baby bath, they're so expensive and grown out of really quickly. Get a plastic trug or install a butlers sink.

We lived in a flat with no bath until ds was 2.5. Until he was 1 he was fine in the baby bath (big ikea one).

As soon as he could stand he showered with one of us and loved it! Even now we've moved and have a bath he still prefers a shower (he's nearly 4).

Just got a shower here, baby due in 4 weeks! So no practical experience yet but...

Our shower has quite a deep tray, so putting a plug in and filling it up will result in maybe five inches of water. I have bought a little fabric bath support which fits in the shower tray and should think this will be ok for baby baths! Also have a top and tail thing but haven't bought a separate baby bath for the usual reasons, too bulky, annoying to fill (would have to fill from shower and put on bathroom floor. Bathroom is tiny = no where for me to sit? Probably easier to use shower tray!

So maybe you could get a deep shower tray and fit it to your current shower??

Or tub trugs or a big sink sound perfectly reasonable too!

We have a bath and bought a lovely Winnie the Pooh bath chair for DS before he arrived. Turns out he HATES baths!! He has always looked terrified and screamed when being bathed so DH takes him in the shower with him, I hand him over and am ready to receive him with a towel when he's done and this has been going on since DS was about 3 weeks old. He loves showers and gets really excited now at 6mo, so it may not be a problem!

Just been to kiddicare and a bath was about £7 so have bought one as it just seems easier, plus I'm convinced it will double as a sledge if it snows! :D

I used to shower with my daughter on a mesh baby seat (for bathing them in the bath i think) in the tray. It was from fairly small. She now showers herself and only wants a bath to practice 'swimming'.
