Hi, I believe I am 5 weeks 5 days with a very unexpected pregnancy after 3 years ttc.

I had my first blood test at 16 dpo and it was 96,2nd at 20dpo was 343 ( so just about doubling ever 48 hours.) 3rd at 23 was 727 so had slowed down but still doubled in 72 hours. Had a scan the next day (Friday) and they could just make out what they though was a sac but it was very small but she said that was normal with my hcg levels being under 2000. Anyway they said I needed another blood test but exactly 48 hours apart this time so I had one yesterday evening.

The doctor has just called me and it's only gone from 727 to 916 in 48 hours. The Dr didn't seem concerned as it's still a rise but I don't think it's looking good at all Sad

The thing is I have a Ds (5) and my hcg levels were never massive with him either although the first two I had early on doubled if I remember correctly. I know at 7w 5 days with him my hcg was only 7000 and he's a strapping, healthy 5 years old.

I don't know what I'm asking really, just after other peoples experiences good or bad. Is it possible some women just have low, slow rising hcg pregnancies? Everything I'm reading on the web makes my levels sound tiny but as I say they weren't mega high with my Ds.

Sorry for ranting I feel numb.

Should also say no bleeding at all and only very mild period type cramps occasionally which I also had in 1st pregnancy.

Thanks.

I'm sorry you are worried, is there a particular reason for your having the regular blood tests as it isn't standard in the UK.
I did have to through all the blood tests with one of my pregnancies, which did turn out to be ectopic. I had no pain but was spotting a little.
I hope all goes smoothly for you.

From what I've read the 'normal' ranges for hormone levels are really broad and it's not unusual for them not to double every 48-72 hours. It's just one tool they use in addition to scans and symptoms and isn't diagnostic on its own. Hope everything turns out ok for you x

Yes the reason I have had blood tests initially was the same as for my son I was that shocked I had fallen pregnant I was convinced it was a cyst Hmm which I have had before and can turn a HPT positive. My Gp then ordered the 3rd one as he said they were very low but as I say it doubled in 72 hours which he wasn't happy about at all do sent me to the EPU on Friday who said it was normal but wanted to rule out an eptopic, but this final blood test isn't looking good at all Sad

I had mild period pains when I first found out and then no pain at all but I am having mild period type pains again and my tummy feels quite heavy and af like if that makes sense.

My other concern is that my pregnancy tests are not darkening as quickly as I'd like, yesterdays was quite dark but still lighter than the control and they seem to be making ages to make progression even though my hcg levels are in the high hundreds Confused

Thanks for replying it's nice just to have someone listen as dp won't hear of it as he thinks I'll jinx it Hmm

It is all such a horrible rollercoaster. What are the next steps for you?

Roseperfume · 13/04/2014 12:36

Apparently a Nurse from the EPU will contact me tomorrow I'm guessing more blood tests which isn't great as I have terrible veins and the last 2 blood draws took 5 attempts to get blood and she went in a tiny vein in my hand in the end which is still throbbing today Sad. They did say on Friday they would do another scan but would leave a week or two which I think is best.

The Dr who rang me today didn't have all my info as she was from the general Gynae ward but said my rise was still with in the expected parameters or something but everything I've googles says it doesn't look good Sad

The only hope I'm clinging to is that this is the first 48 test, the others (which showed normal rises) were 96 and 72 hours, so I'm praying that perhaps it's possible for my Hcg to rise slowly over 48 hours and then jump up before the 72 hours if that makes sense, I know it's unlikely but it's the only hope I have at the moment.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you, there is always hope.

been there. done that.
my advice...
STOP.
Stop testing, it'll drive you insane and its not an accurate science. so many things affect the darkness of the lines. And steer well clear of digital tests. They're shite.
Secondly and most difficult, stop thinking about it. Do anything and everything to distract yourself. Don't google, youll terrify yourself whatever. Horrible as it is, you can't change anything so you need to just survive until you know either way.
Good luck. xx
