Apologies, as I know there is always one of these threads floating about, but please come and share your tips and suggestions on getting labour started.

I am 39+6 and would dearly love to avoid induction - which will be on bank holiday monday if I don't hurry up.

I am also a little bit bored, so a list of things to try will at least keep me occupied.

So far I have tried / am trying:

acupuncture
reflexology
walking for about a mile a day (albeit quite slowly)
burning clary sage oil (but Im unsure how much I should be using and how often I should be doing it)
eating a hot curry (thinking I should have another even hotter one tonight as it did cause the baby to move about a far bit afterwards yesterday)

Im not getting even the slightest hint of period / back pain or Braxton Hicks, which is making me think this baby is far too settled inside.

I, ahem, waylaid DP when he was trying to leave for work this morning. I wasn't really in the mood but I don't even want a membrane sweep so thought it worth a try.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Sex.

DS was 10 days early thanks to sex. On top worked best Grin also tweaking your nipples is meant to work. Makes your uterus contract.

Pineapple is meant to work?

All tips from my midwife cousin. Good luck!

If it's any consolation, in three weeks time you'll have had your baby.

I went 40+13 with my three DDs. Time was the only thing that got my babies out!

something, without getting too personal ...errr. ... what position worked for you? DH and I did try the other night, but I could not get myself into an appropriate position without causing huge agony to me. I felt like an old woman with my hip and pelvic pain!! Blush Blush

A very awkward kneeling kind of missionary position by DP, because I was too lazy to make any effort whatsoever.

Oh dear, I've done for the thread - was that TMI?!

GingerRodgers · 10/04/2014 15:12

Haha Grin sorry something but that did make me laugh! I think it was the well described scenario, can imagine myself being like that - "just get on with it and get this baby out" dh being all Hmm

Smile Hope it works anyway.

Oh, it's all romance in the Something household Grin

I must disclose that precisely nothing has resulted from DP's valiant efforts, but you may have more luck.

Just try not to make disparaging comments like I did.

ChicaMomma · 10/04/2014 17:54

If you cant manage sex- try masturbation. You don't get the effect of the semen on the cervix- but you get the effect of the contractions of the cervix (provided you orgasm that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) My sister swears this brought her on both times. Not a bad way to spend your last few days!!
