What can I eat to feel better?

Hello all
Am 8 weeks pregnant. I've been feeling weak, and really tired, which leads to nausea. I'm training to be a social worker and am on placement atm, and it's at a cafe for drug addicts. Some of them don't have the best personal hygiene, and (am in a forrin' country) there is a smoking room, which means that smoke is always in the air. these things also bring on nausea. I've been sent home twice when my energy just ran out, and have taken today off too as I nearly threw up my breakfast. But I'm only allowed 12 days off, or I wont pass, and I'll have to do it all again when I go back from maternity leave. I finish placement on the 20th June, so a while to go yet.

What can I eat to help keep my going? If any of you have tips for small things to snack on that would be great. No hummous in resident country Sad

Vimto ice lollies, cucumber, apples and potatoes were the only things I could eat.

I lived on about 6 different things, including:

  1. crackerbread
  2. ready salted crisps or pom bears
  3. hot dogs
  4. fries (chips)
  5. breadsticks
  6. laughing cow cheese

I don't recommend above diet as by 14 weeks I felt miserable and had to force myself to eat healthier things with nutrients. I feel much better now though at 20 weeks :)

Good luck!!

I felt sick for pretty much the first 20 weeks of each of my 3 pregnancies.

Sucking on extra strong mints helped and nibbling on fig rolls. Still love fig rolls but even the thought of an extra strong mint makes me feel queasy. (Ds3 is now 15!)

Meant to say hope you start to feel better soon Smile

ginger biscuits - used to leave a pack of them beside the bed.

I suffered terribly from HG for six months into my pregnancy and the only two things that either didn't come back up within the hour or made me feel like a human being were:

KFC popcorn chicken
Yorkshire puddings (ready made ones strangely enough)

Not very healthy there but whatever helps you feel better through the sickness is worth it Smile

If you can't keep much down, try for something with B12 in, eg Marmite or Bovril made into a drink, because B12 is an essential vitamin. Coca Cola and Lucozade are great when you can't keep anything else down. I had hyperemesis with three pregnancies and was hospitalised with the last one. Feeling for you!
