Strange blob on scan..

Last week I had an early scan, dated at 8+3. Midwife felt my abdomen at booking appt and thought I was further along or possibly carrying multiples.EPU mw said neither, 1 baby 8+2/3.

However, looking at my scan photo there is a small blob about half the size of the confirmed embryo, she didn't mention it during the (quick) scan, and I didn't notice as I was so excited to see the embryo shaped blob!
I've attached the photo, has anyone else seen similar?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Looks like it could be the yolk sack (but I'm no expert) the yolk sac is what feeds the baby till placenta takes over at 12weeks(ish)

Oh that makes sense, thanks! When I had an early scan with DD I was only 7w so she.was about the size of current blob, do I guess the yolk sac wouldn't have been visible? 4th pg and I'm still learning new stuff Grin

It would have been there but you may not have noticed or seen it or it wasnt visible at the angle maybe :)
