Sorry this has prob been done loads but I can't find any recent threads. When did your bump start to show?

I know it's different for everyone but I'm on my first pregnancy and at 4 months, met up with some friends this morning who I haven't seen in ages and they all seemed surprised I had no bump to show. I'm getting a bit worried as well that it might mean the baby isn't growing or something, although the 12 week scan was fine and things looked normal. (paranoid!) My friend is 2 weeks ahead of me and has a huge bump already!

Some people hardly show at all. Do you have strong tummy muscles?

Ducky23 · 06/04/2014 12:09

Both me and SIL didn't have massive bumps, even before SIL gave birth you could hardly tell she was pregnant! I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but could you speak with your midwife to put your mind at rest? X

CleverWittyUsername · 06/04/2014 12:13

Not particularly, madratlady! Then again I've always had a fairly flat stomach even when the rest of me has been massively overweight. I am at the midwife this week Ducky so will mention it, but didn't want to look like a nutter if it was completely normally not to 'pop' out til much later on.

I suddenly popped out at about 22/24 weeks. Even now at 35 weeks I have a small neat bump iykwim. I wouldn't worry. Enjoy it while it lasts, because they soon get in the way. I managed to somehow forget about how big bump was yesterday and walked into a trolley. Blush

mrsnec · 06/04/2014 12:26

I have rubbish damaged stomach mussels, a pre pg bmi of 26 and at 14+4 haven't gained an ounce haven't had a scan yet though so it is a worry for me but loads of people on other threads reassured me telling me they didn't show until about 18-20 weeks I don't know anyone in Rl with similar dates to me but in the press, there's a sort of celeb who is the same age, height and build as me with same dates and she is massive I totally get where your coming from.

HopefulHamster · 06/04/2014 12:32

This is my second pregnancy, I am just coming up to 14 weeks and no bump yet. I did have a bit of a fat spare tyre and prodding it, it is harder than it used to be - but if the baby's moved in there, where's all the squishy stuff gone?!

People just show at different rates depending on stomach muscles and body shape.

One girl at work was barely showing at 7 months - she was quite tall.

Mmolly2013 · 06/04/2014 12:36

My first pregnancy I'm 20 weeks only getting a tiny one now but people still say to me 'where's the bump' I think it's just normal to pop at anytime. I can feel the baby kicking me now lightly so not worried at all

squizita · 06/04/2014 12:54

I have a big pelvis, am at 17 weeks and am only just getting a slight raised area. Only people who know me notice (when I pull my top tight) as though not sporty I usually have a flat tummy.

I've also had unwanted comments which make me anxious. But apparently it varies wildly, some dont show for 6 months almost!

RaRa1988 · 06/04/2014 13:16

I'm 30 weeks and, whilst it's been noticeable to me for a while, some people at work hadn't noticed until 27 weeks +. I've got noticeably bigger since then though - really popped out from probably 27 weeks onwards!

Eminybob · 06/04/2014 13:20

I'm on my first pg and my bump appeared really early on! I think a lot of it was to do with putting on weight in first trimester due to eating to curb the morning sickness, but I was in under bump maternity jeans from about week 12 Blush.

I'm 24 weeks now am huge! I'm dreading getting any bigger! Count yourself lucky!

somedizzywhore1804 · 06/04/2014 13:21

I'm 27 weeks and only just starting to look noticeably pregnant. My stomach muscles aren't strong but I am taller than average for a woman at 5ft 8 so I think that the baby just has more room in there than if I was shorter.

Heatherbell1978 · 06/04/2014 13:21

I'm 21 weeks (first pregnancy) and I started to show at about 17 wks and in the last week it really has popped! I saw some friends last night who I saw a week ago and they couldn't believe the difference!

weebairn · 06/04/2014 13:37

On first pregnancy I didn't really have a bump till well after 20 weeks and it wasn't till after 30 weeks that people thought it was obvious.

On second pregnancy I don't have a bump at 14 weeks, though I am a little bigger round the middle now.

I think it's generally a good thing as you spend less time being sick of looking so different. I really enjoyed the attention in the 3rd trimester because no one had really noticed before then, but if i'd had a bump from 10 weeks I can imagine it gets quite wearing by then! Also you can wear your normal clothes for longer.

I find I look more or less the same right now but I feel so different it's hard to reconcile the mirror/photos with how I feel!

weebairn · 06/04/2014 13:39

I am also pretty short so it's not only tall people who can have little bumps! I do a fair amount of yoga/pilates/core work

mrsnec · 06/04/2014 13:43

I'm only 5ft 3 and as I've said I'm not exactly small but I didn't expect to still be in my skinny jeans at this point! Have had to get a bigger bra though so that's encouraging but I read on here of people being in maternity clothes from 6 weeks so I had no idea what the norm was!

CleverWittyUsername · 06/04/2014 13:58

Very good to know just how much it varies, thank you all for your responses!

I'm small and keep pretty fit but my bump is already huge at nearly 17 weeks. People have been visibly shocked... My midwife was very reassuring though and said it varies massively and not to worry Smile

ohthegoats · 06/04/2014 20:55

I'd say it's a good thing not to show. Cheaper on clothes, potentially better on stretch marks. I'm a chubber, so everything has gone wobbly up front, but at 15 weeks, I just look fatter than usual, and there isn't really a hardness to speak of.

ithoughtofitfirst · 06/04/2014 21:30

I had a little bump which grew steadily from 16 weeks. People only started noticing when i was about 20+ weeks though.

This time i'm just bloated. But no bump yet at 12 weeks.
