Hi,ive recently finally got an appointment to have my mirena coil removed.it is at least 3years out of date as i have moved location and also had a number of useless doctors.i was hoping to start trying for a baby once it is removed but my latest doctor has said it shouldnt have been working for a long time so i am now worried something is wrong.i know its my own fault i didnt get it out in time but im really scared something has been been damaged.any knowledge or advice would b great.thanksx

The mirena has hormones in as well as the structure of a regular coil. Once the hormones have run out your chances of falling pregnant should have increased. The hormones don't run out spot on 3 years, but you should have your coil changed every 3 years to ensure maximum protection (this is what my gp told me)

It took us 3 months to fall pregnant after mirena coil removal. I hope you get a similar result :-)

The coil itself prevents implantation, as do the hormones it releases so even when it's out of date it'll still be offering a level of contraception (though not as effective), I wouldn't worry.

It took me about 3 weeks to conceive after removal of a normal copper coil. Out on 19th December, pregnant on 9th January. I wouldn't worry if I were you, it's still there being awkward and hassling your uterus!

I really worried about this. Especially from the way the doctor practically ripped it out in one movement. I didn't start ttc straight after it was removed for a few reasons, but after a couple of months we decided to start trying and conceived pretty much straight away. Try and see how it goes.. good luck cx
